Lodge at a Glance: Killington Mountain Lodge

Winter in Killington means skiing, of which there’s plenty to be found at the nearby Killington Resort, home of the largest vertical drop in New England, but there’s also many things to do during spring time. For those who aren’t thrill seekers, there’s plenty of hiking and biking trails that wend through the Green Mountains, offering up close looks at wildlife. No matter which outdoor activity you go for, though, there’ll be hot coffee, tea, and cocoa awaiting you at the Killington Mountain Lodge, where you can sip around the massive stone fireplace in the lobby. This getaway also includes an optional $25 pub credit.

  • Enjoy artisanal pastries and Vermont coffee at the complimentary breakfast.
  • Soak your muscles after a long day of skiing or exploring in the 20-person, outdoor hot tub.
  • Rainy day activities: board games, pool table, movie room with free popcorn
  • Work up a sweat in the on-site fitness center.

Killington, Vermont: Hiking and Golf in the Green Mountains

The small Vermont town of Killington is home to one of the most scenic segments of the 2,200-mile Appalachian Trail, winding through the Green Mountains toward Thundering Falls, a 140-foot cascade tumbling down a stepped rock formation. Its rushing falls generate a soothing sound that can rise to a roar when the water’s high.

In winter, skiers flock to Killington Resort, home of the largest vertical drop in New England at more than 3,000 feet. During the off-season, you can take a scenic gondola ride to the top of Killington Peak. Stop here and admire the view of the mountains as they spill over into New Hampshire.

You don’t need to hike to take in the Green Mountain scenery. The Geoffrey Cornish–designed Killington Golf Course offers panoramic views of the peaks in addition to a challenging 18 holes.

Microbrew enthusiasts may want to make the trip to Long Trail Brewing Company in Bridgewater Corners, about a 15-minute drive from Killington. Its varied stock of suds ranges from bold IPAs to chocolatey porters.

A LITTLE DISAPPOINTED Stayed 3 Nights in a corner/king room #202 with 2 balconies (one with a great view of the mountain foliage). Room was clean and not too worn. Room negatives for us: 1. HATED the heat source in the room. Mounted on the wall close to the ceiling. It blew directly on the bed which was horrible on my sinuses 2. Need a folding luggage rack in the room. The built-in one in the closet is too small for a suitcase. 3: It was very windy and I’m not sure being on the corner may have made it worse/louder. Probably wouldn’t pick this room again. Also had a few negatives about the hotel in general: 1. Hilton should not say there is a on-site restaurant. ONLY a Starbucks. Not sure it was even a real one. Only open until 11 each morning. Our reservation included breakfast each day and was thinking it would be in a “real restaurant”, not a muffin/yogurt one like you get at the “freebie breakfast” locations. We paid extra $$ for a real one. 2. Same problem for dinner. NO Restaurant. ONLY limited (maybe 6 options) to eat in the bar. We had a car so drove the 2 other nights away for dinner. Pretty Area during the fall. Probably want ever return to Vermont.

False advertising, not worth $, just okay Website not up to date. Is not what is being advertised. Not worth the $400 per night. It was just okay. Columbus Day weekend, stayed 2 nights. CONS: CHECK IN PROBLEMS no one to clean rooms - check in couldn't start until 6/7pm and long line by then. Some waited 2 hours NO BREAKFAST as advertised. Only very limited Starbucks with muffins. Short staffed. NO HOT WATER even at 7:45 am PROS Location on access road Clean and updated rooms, but not real Tapestry level luxury if that is what you are seeking Onsite bar and activities, games, pool table for families good Quiet room for sleeping, nice queen bed
