Tulum, Mexico: Tranquil and Relaxing Getaway

Tulum is a town on the Caribbean coastline of Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula sitting on a perch of rocky bluffs and is better known for ancient ruins, including temples and a cliff-side castle. The inhabitants of Tulum—which means "walled" in the aboriginal language—first erected the city's outer fortress to protect themselves from belligerent invaders. Today, the wall guards the archaeological zone, beginning with an entryway of two corbel arches and a limestone house built over an underwater cave.

Swimming in the secret caves isn’t allowed, but a scenic drive north of Tulum brings you to the Yucatán Peninsula's legendary limestone cenotes, freshwater sinkholes created by an underground river system. At the Cenote Cristalino, you can jump from terraced outcroppings into an exposed pool or go snorkeling in underwater caves. You can also watch locals expertly flip, dive, and synchronously cannonball into the clear water at this popular weekend hangout.

Extortion at check in Not happy. Still here. I checked in on june 14 at night. Paid $30 dollars for taxi from center. I had booked a bungalow with private bath. Ac and safe box. Breakfast included. When I arrived I verified ac and safebox, the clerk told me the room did not have a safebox. I sid that was unacceptable. He then fussed a lot and said he would have to upgrade. I was really tired. He said a better room would be $100 for the 8 nights. I finally agreed and pulled out my credit card. He said. O, just give $50 ash and don't tell manager. It was clear I was not going to get a room otherwise. The room He put me in ,28, was exactly like the one I had booked. I felt ripped off and think management should refund my $50 and fire clerk

FRENCH PEOPLE NOT WELCOME!!! To the Director of the hotel: FRENCH PEOPLE, YOU ARE NOT WELCOME!!! We were 5 friends looking for a nice place to lunch. The location was perfect and we had a lunch with a nice view on the sea. After our lunch followed by a relaxing time on the beach, we unfortunately decided to go back again to La Diosa for a drink. After our drink, we asked to one of the waiters how to reach the road for getting into a collectivo bus back to Playa Del Carmen. The waiter kindly advised to walk through the hotel lobby. After 50 meters walking to the lobby, one person of the restaurant staff impolitely ordered to come back and go away through the beach because we were not members of the hotel. We tried to explain him that one of the restaurant employee allowed us to leave through the lobby. He rudely said "I don't care what you say, I'm the Manager and order you to go away to the beach". We tried to explain again but he was very aggressive although we were customers and spent moneys and tips for lunch and drinks. This guy became even more aggressive and declared that " IT IS ALWAYS THE SAME WITH THE FRECH PEOPLE, YOU ARE ALWAYS ARGUEING" Being customers and treated like criminals is not acceptable. Furthermore, segregation by nationality, even if this guy does not like French people, is very unpleasant. To summarize, they benefit from the location, enjoy your money and kick you out like stray dogs. Mister the Director of the hotel, I recommend you to fire the restaurant "manager" before he comes to blows with impatient customers!!

A peaceful oasis we'll be coming back to every year! IMPORTANT: THIS HOTEL IS NOW CALLED ALITO TULUM! It's developed a large amount since the last time my girlfriend was there a few years ago and we're not sure how recently, so take old reviews with a grain of salt. My girlfriend and I traveled to Tulum for a week looking for a calm and relaxing weekend by the beach. Thank god we chose Alito, because it's the best place in Tulum to get it! We stayed in the Queen Mayan Bungalow. It was fit with a robust air conditioning unit that easily cooled the entire space like a normal room, and had a low-profile standing fan for additional circulation. The blankets were light but the hotel was very accommodating with comfort requests. When we asked for additional pillows we had them in 5 minutes. The bungalows are spaced far enough apart that we never heard our neighbors. Each morning we woke up to the sound of bird calls and at night fell asleep to the waves of the ocean. We never had any issues with bugs or critters and we slept without taking the canopy down. We got massages through the hotel and they were phenomenal. We noticed that a lot of other hotels just had beds right on the beach next to the sunbathers, but Alito has a structure up a small hill behind the beach club, allowing for the sights and sounds of the beach while still being tucked away from view. Breakfast was included with the stay and the options were simple and delicious. Additional options were available for around $8 USD, including a salmon omelette that I ended up having most mornings. The beachfront restaurant was quiet and beautiful in the mornings. The food at the restaurant was awesome! We tried all of the ceviches (fav: shrimp aguachiles), both of the tiraditos which were a massive cut of fresh tuna or salmon perfect for sharing, the octopus which was insanely tender, the tuna tostadas which were loaded with fish, the fish tacos which we loved for the same reason, and always the guacamole which was a massive scoop each time. The drinks were great, I recommend getting the hibiscus margarita. They can do all the flavors of daiquiris in the margaritas so you can spend all vacation trying them all! My girlfriend loved the pina coladas and the fruit they garnished everything with was insanely fresh. Because Alito is the farthest down the beach you can go before you hit the ruins there were almost always spots available on the beds, chairs, or beach if you got there before noon. The beach club had a mix of king size beds and single-person lounge chairs with varying degrees of shade. It was very easy to move around and chase the sun or the shade through the day. My girlfriend and I walked down the beach and checked out a number of other hotels and restaurants in the immediate area, but they were all much more crowded and the menus didn't appeal to us as much. When we ventured farther south via cab to the loud bustle of the clubs and bars we thought "I'm glad we're sleeping away from this." If being immersed in the party scene of Tulum appeals to you, Alito wouldn't be for you. If you're like us and would rather travel to the party and come back to a calming beach vacation, it's perfect. One of the reasons it's so peaceful is because Alito, as well as 8 other hotel/resorts, are now located in Jaguar National Park. This means he main road leading to these hotels has a traffic stop to confirm the people entering have reservations at one of the resorts or a wristband (given to you at check-in). For others I believe there's a fee of a few dollars, but I could be wrong. Most people then pull off at one of earlier the hotels or parking areas without going all the way down to where Alito sits nestled away. Everyone on staff from the front desk to the servers were incredibly friendly and attentive. We felt welcomed and taken care of immediately and all of our needs were met immediately whenever we asked. My girlfriend and I are thinking of making this a yearly trip, and we wouldn't even consider booking someplace other than the Alito. (There are only a few downsides to note, all of which were easily dealt with but should be accounted into expectations: because it's all the way by the ruins, a cab into downtown Tulum or the other side of the beach road where the clubs are will run you anywhere from $20-40 USD after tip depending on the time of day. Additionally, in the bungalow the bathroom is separated by a curtain, not a door, leaving little to the imagination. There are a nice table and chairs outside though should you not want to be that familiar. I also think the steps from the ruins to the beach were closed at the time of our stay.)

Nice hotel, facilities and beach. Inconvenient location. The staff were all great, helpful and friendly. The beach is beautiful, and access from the rooms/cabins is convenient and easy. The room was clean and functional. The included breakfast is fantastic and the restaurant near the ocean is great. However, the location of the hotel in the national park is inconvenient. You have to pay daily for access to the national park, and they don't allow you to bring in plastic (including water bottles) or alcohol !! Also getting to and from the main hotel strip where all the restaurants are is expensive.

Beautiful hotel ___❤️ Great hotel. It is located in a national park and is very peaceful and beautiful. There are many restaurants around the hotel and it is close to Tulum Ruini. The staff is very friendly, they clean the rooms every day. Only the internet in the rooms was very weak. I recommend with both hands ❤️
