South Lake Tahoe, California: Year-Round Haven for Outdoor Adventures and Late-Night Revelry

Lake Tahoe has no real off-season; people find ways to make use of its pristine water, beaches, and mountains all year long. In the summer, the lake’s clear, freshwater surface—which straddles the California-Nevada border—is dotted with swimmers, boaters, and jet skiers. Several ski resorts typically stay open from November to April, and Emerald Bay State Park is accessible year-round. A moderately easy hike to the base of Lower Eagle Falls reveals breathtaking views of the waterfalls crashing down from above.

Spectators gather at night for South Lake Tahoe’s events, which range from wine and food festivals to rock concerts and fireworks displays. A few miles northwest of South Lake Tahoe sits Stateline, Nevada, where a handful of casinos host high-stakes games of blackjack and solitaire.

The room was two queens. Nothing fancy and very rustic but it was clean and very comfortable. The best part was the restaurant great food. The staff from house keeping to Casino staff was helpful and friendly. I have stayed before with my family of 8 and we have always received prime rooms for the price and location to the strip.

Spacious, Good Price, Great Location The Lakeside Inn and Casino was our choice at Lake Tahoe for two nights end of June 2019 while travelling on the West Coast for three weeks. Originally it was planned for just one night, but as we enjoyed the area that much we extended our stay by one night. Coming from Lee Vining/Mono Lake we arrived at Stateline quite early and had to wait 3-4 hours until the official check-in time. Actually we didn't ask for an early check-in because we wanted to explore the area anyway and have some lunch. We then showed up at the reception to check in around 4 pm and were served really professional and polite. Our room was a bit offside, to the the back of the pool, that didn't bother us. At that time of the day/afternoon it wasn't a problem to get a parking space nearby. Our room was on the ground floor. It was pretty big with two queen size beds. We found everything clean. As we had some really exhausting days we didn't feel to go out this evening for dinner. Also we still had some leftovers in our cooler that we wanted to heat up. As there wasn't a microwave on the room we called the reception and asked if there is a possibility to heat it for us. What really surprised us: They asked if we wanted to have a microwave and a fridge and brought it some minutes later. That is what I call service! We saw two pools on premise. One regular and one heated whirpool. Nice! They also provided towels in the outside area so that you don't need to bring the towels from the room. We found the hotel really nice, rooms clean and the staff very friendly. As a non smoker I was a bit bothered by the casino being a (partly?) smoking-allowed facility. But in the end we would definitely stay there again. Nice, big rooms, friendly and professional staff with great service and a really good price. I would actually stay there even longer than just two nights.

Only was in Casino Small casino, but decent variety of slot games. Large wrap-around square bar with games and TV. It is an older casino, so they've put in several air purifiers around the floor to aid with clearing smoke, etc. It does work pretty well; don't smoke, so know quickly when it's bad. Only complaint was floor wait-service. I visited several times, and only had a waitress visit once to ask if I needed a drink. Once I went to the bar for a glass of water, and had quite a wait too. The place isn't that busy, so I'm not sure why the service isn't any better than it is----other than, I noticed they visited with what appeared to be regulars frequently. That's nice, but not conducive to earning new loyalty.

Above and beyond After I checked in, I had a family emergency and had to leave without staying the night. When I was checking out, the hotel offered to refund my stay. It was offered to me without me asking for it. I’m so appreciative of the gesture. Would definitely return. Thanks Lakeside Inn.
