The hotel is in a great location and I thought the room was very nice. When we checked, I let the front desk know that I was using a groupon and all was well, or so I thought. Once we arrived home, I realized that the hotel had also charged my credit card which was required to be given for incidentals. We left on July 3rd and I called the hotel to get this taken care of on July 4th but as of today I have not gotten a call back.

New Orleans, LA: Cradle of American Culture and Resilience

New Orleans stands as a singular city in the American landscape—shaped by centuries of colonial rule, cultural fusion, and unbroken endurance. Founded by the French in 1718 and later ruled by the Spanish before joining the United States via the Louisiana Purchase, the city wears its layered past with unapologetic pride. The French Quarter, with its wrought-iron balconies and narrow streets, serves not just as a tourist hub but as a living archive of architectural preservation. At the bend of the Mississippi River, New Orleans rose as a key port city, its docks once bustling with goods, immigrants, and ideas that would fuel the city’s role in shaping music, cuisine, and commerce in the American South.

But New Orleans is more than its history—it’s a place where culture has become resistance. The birthplace of jazz, the city gave voice to African American expression in an era of suppression, turning rhythm into revolution. Every Mardi Gras parade and second line march is a public act of memory, blending West African, Caribbean, and European traditions into something distinctly Louisianan. In the face of hurricanes, floods, and systemic neglect, New Orleans endures—not as a relic, but as a dynamic cultural force. It doesn’t just remember its past; it lives it, honors it, and transforms it into something new.

Avoid! The positive: location! This is a great location for exploring New Orleans conveniently located for canal street, the French quarter and caesars casino. The less positive: Our check in experience was not great with the hotel having only one of our two bookings! This meant that our rooms were not together but more of that to come! Our two teenage daughters were in a room on the 7th floor which resembled more of a building site than a hotel, with work clearly going on in adjoining rooms with the floor covered in sticky boards and doors with dust zippers! Their room was incredibly dusty at the end of our 4 night stay (speaks volumes about the housekeeping - more to come on that). Our first room was on floor 12 which was EVEN more of a building site than floor 7! Our room number was obscured by the plastic sheeting cordoning off what work was taking place on that floor. The room smelt really funny and I couldn’t have spent any more time in there! We went back to reception and were duly moved to a new room on floor 18. This room was much nicer but boy it was really noisy! It was like there was a helicopter flying right outside the window all the time - a very loud and persistent whirring but in all honesty I couldn’t be bothered to go back to reception to ask to move rooms again! The level of housekeeping was quite frankly shambolic and resembled that of travel in 2021 in the very start of the post Covid travel era. Our rooms did not get serviced after our first nights stay which was not ideal as we’d left our towels on the floor in the hope that they would be refreshed. When we called reception to enquire as to why our rooms had not been made up they made it sound like we’d asked for something unreasonable- they cited being short staffed! Had reception staff managed our expectations at check in that there wouldn’t have been a daily room refresh then that would have been better but not ideal. The consequences of this were that we had no coffee, fresh water or fresh towels. The sheets were also ill fitting meaning that the beds very quickly became untidy and needed making every day. To our surprise the rooms were made up ahead of our final night but rather than having a set of towels the pile left in the room was a mish mash of flannels, hand towels and foot towels with no bath towels - another call to reception. The safe was also a joke - so high in the wardrobe that it was impossible to see into it unless you are about 6 feet tall! All in all a disappointing stay I wish with hindsight that I’d pushed harder to stay in the Hilton! The final straw was a random credit card charge that was put on our credit card for over £400! There was no paperwork provided at the time of check out and no mention of this charge! It took a lengthy phone call to try to resolve this! My advice would be to avoid this hotel!

4 star hotel with 2 star cleanliness and service We stayed at the Le Méridien Hotel using the AMEX Fine Hotels & Resorts benefit, but the experience fell far below the standards we typically expect from AMEX properties. At check-in, none of the AMEX benefits were acknowledged—I had to ask about each one. The room also needed some TLC; it had a musty smell, and the shower didn’t drain properly. We intentionally left the privacy sign off so the room would be cleaned while we were out for the day, but we returned to find it untouched. Overall, I’d recommend choosing another hotel in New Orleans that better meets the expectations of a true 4-star property.

It was not of the caliber expected. I will not return. Stayed in room 1502. The coffee machine was broken, the iton was missing completely, and ehen I returned to the room at 3:15pm it had not even been cleaned. This IS NOT a Marriott or Le Meridien experience. This is not the level of service expected when you book Le Meridien. Complete fail.
