Manhattan's Midtown West: Edgy, Urban Vibe with Lots of Restaurants

Though it's a stone's throw from top attractions such as Central Park, Broadway, and Radio City Music Hall, Midtown West can feel a little grittier and less developed than some of the surrounding NYC neighborhoods. Stretching roughly from 59th to 29th Street and the Hudson River to 8th Avenue (though some say it continues as far east as Madison Avenue), Midtown West lacks the chain restaurants of Times Square and the large department stores of 5th Avenue. Instead, you can find neighborhood markets, cafes, and walk-up row houses.

Midtown West is also known as Hell's Kitchen, a nod to the numerous restaurants that serve everything from Asian street food to fine French cuisine. The neighborhood's eateries and bars are especially concentrated along 9th and 10th Avenues, and it's easy to walk between them all.

We had a great time. Loved all the staff. Very kind and helpful. The room is small but “cozy”. Check out the roof top views! Loved the location, we mostly walked everywhere. Their french fries are amazing!

Beautiful rooms in the heart of the city We are local but needed a hotel in the city to be able to hop on a train early the next morning. This hotel is going to be our "go-to" for recommendations to friends and family. Location is fantastic - walkable to major sights in Midtown, Central Park and easy access to several subway stations. I liked the fact that the hotel felt small - it has an unassuming entrance and small lobby but it is nicely decorated with some seating. The room itself was stunning - I loved the wood panelling, large windows and the choice of furnishings. It has almost a vintage vibe, especially in the bathroom. Everything was spotlessly clean and had good storage space despite being on the smaller side (typical for New York City hotels). The bed was comfortable and even though we were in the heart of the city, it didn't feel noisy. This hotel was perfect for what we needed and I hope we get to stay here again!

A good hotel with room for improvement There are many good things about this hotel, and we would like to make it our regular place of lodging when we visit New York City several times a year. The location is wonderful, close to many attractions and shops. Both the Paris bar and Jardine, the rooftop bar are very nice. Delicious food, great cocktails, and attentive service. The rooftop bar has a lovely view of the city. Housekeeping does a great job of keeping the rooms tidy. It's a boutique hotel, so the rooms are not large. But if you get a one bedroom suite, which we did this time, there's plenty of room and the bathroom is quite spacious. But it doesn't offer conveniences that other Marriotts do. For example, you can't check in using the Bonvoy app. You can check in, technically, but you can't get your key through the app. The app seems to also lag behind, so it doesn't notify you when your room is ready. We spent two hours at the rooftop bar, waiting on our room to be ready because the previous guest checked out late. If they are going to offer a late check out option, they need to ensure that housekeeping is able to attend to the room right away so that people can check in. I shouldn't be punished because somebody else Chose to check out late. I was trying to communicate with the check desk through the app, which they later told me was not the best way to communicate. But I had no other choice because we had had drinks and food and I wanted to use my daily food and beverage credit, which I cannot do until I had a room number. So, we were basically trapped up there, which wasn't a bad place to be. But it was annoying to have to wait that long to get a room number so that we could pay our bill and use the discount. Most staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Some staff were not friendly and looked annoyed that we needed help.
