Philadelphia’s Center City: Historic Landmarks and Museums

The historic Center City neighborhood, also known as downtown Philadelphia, dates back to the city’s founding in 1682. Today, Center City is Philadelphia’s central business district, with several skyscrapers and high-profile museums. The neighborhood is also home to Independence National Historical Park, whose high concentration of notable landmarks makes it America’s most historic square mile. While you’re here, visit Independence Hall—birthplace of the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution—or head to the Liberty Bell Center to see the approximately 2,000-pound bell.

The shops of Historic Antique Row are less than a mile from here. The small, locally owned shops stock everything from oriental rugs to vintage clothing. Head about 15 minutes northwest to scale the famous steps outside the Philadelphia Museum of Art, where Rocky Balboa once pumped his fists victoriously. Inside, the massive museum’s holdings range from ancient Chinese art to famous paintings by Claude Monet, Salvador Dalí, and Vincent van Gogh.

Amazing Stay! Great Staff I would like to particularly highlight Jackie (front desk attendant) and Jade, the valet service attendant. They were instrumental in influencing me to stay an additional night. They made me feel at home and extremely welcomed. Going forward, when I have plans to stay in Philadelphia it’s no question that I’ll be staying here. These ladies, in addition to one other lady that worked directly with Jackie, were absolutely phenomenal! I travel all around the world and the level of service that these ladies demonstrated is consistent with what I experience overseas. Sadly, a lot of hotels in the USA aren’t able to provide the same caliber of experience that’s received while traveling. So, it was a pleasant surprise to be greeted with such warmth from Ms. Jackie. She is a guest attendant par excellence and I made sure she knew that before I left. Thank you Le Meridian Philadelphia for an amazing stay!

Nice location but so so I wrote this to Wilson the GM when he asked about my stay so I thought I'd share it, "Everyone was pleasant but I was surprised how small the room was considering we used a couple upgrade certificates on it, also the amenities for a titanium elite member were relatively poor. No lounge, we were not offered water when we arrived, and the voucher for the breakfast is pitiful since you must get the continental breakfast and can't apply those funds to a more expensive meal. It was such a poor value we didn't use it the second day and opted instead to walk and get a breakfast at the market (Reading Terminal) I would have a hard time recommending this hotel to any elite member that didn't really need to be in that location."
