Miami Beach, Florida: White-Sand Beaches, Glamorous Nightlife, and Cuban Cuisine

Miami Beach is a small barrier island situated between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay, a shallow lagoon that separates the beaches from downtown Miami. People from all over the world come here to enjoy the white-sand beaches, shop the high-end boutiques, and party at the legendary see-and-be-seen nightclubs the city is known for. The red-hot center of this sexy, international social scene is South Beach, a 20-block stretch filled with upscale lounges, rooftop bars, and ultrahip hangouts behind velvet ropes. Lummus Park beach is packed by mid-morning, and the clubs on Ocean Drive and Washington Avenue—many of which stay open until 5 a.m.—vie for the limelight with VIP service, celebrity DJs, and dressed-to-the-nines crowds.

Beyond the fast-paced luxury of South Beach lies Miami Beach’s softer side. A leisurely stroll through the Art Deco District reveals hundreds of beautiful, candy-colored buildings, including Versace Mansion—a 1930 manor modeled after a palace in the Dominican Republic that belonged to Christopher Columbus’s family. The centerpiece of the city’s arts scene, the Bass Museum of Art displays works from Peter Paul Rubens and Sandro Botticelli, and modern-design objects and propaganda arts fill three stories at the Wolfsonian-FIU museum. There’s also a handful of vibrant ethnic enclaves to explore here, and Little Havana is among the most notable. The neighborhood is lined with family-owned restaurants and Caribbean-style marketplaces, making it a great place to discover some of the country’s most delicious Cuban food, from sugary guarapo juice to pastelitos, or Cuban pastries.

Vey pleased with the Lexington hotel. Location was great with direct access to the beach right Behind the hotel. Also not too far from the Miami cruise port. Enjoyed our one night stay there.

Not a Safe Place for Families The pool area appeared to have a type of gang hangout on Saturday. There was a large group of young men blasting loud music from a four-foot-tall speaker, smoking pot, and drinking their own alcohol. The hotel’s pool bar was closed. One family came down with their young child with water wings to swim in the pool, but the child was crying uncontrollably, and they left without going in the pool after 15 minutes. Other families also left the pool area. There was no hotel staff in sight. Presumably, they are catering to the gang market, but I can’t see how lucrative it is, as there were at least ten of them in the same room. Many people stay there for a nice, quiet Miami Beach vacation, hanging out at the pool with the kids, but this is the wrong place for families or anyone who values their peace and quiet.

Comfort stay. I give this hotel a strong 3 star , if you are looking for a nice comfortable hotel not much fluff then this is it! Clean and tolerable. We had a 2 day stay and did not have any complaints, the staff was very available and ready to assist with your needs, I would stay here again if needed. They gave us a choice of rooms which was sea view or street view we took the streets;) more people watching. For sea view make sure to pick the high floor, we were on the 9th. Anyway the room is huge no issues with space . The hotel is not new and modern so keep that in mind. That is something I would have given a 4 / 5 stars if it were.

Loud and old Staff was friendly and the lobby was nice, everything else at this hotel is old and has seen better days. Our room looked out to Collins Avenue and due to traffic during the night it was extremly loud. Part of the hotel is a construction site and not the view to enjoy from the pool. Due to the free trolly service the hotel's location is fine, but the real south Beach is quite a walk away (40 minutes). Parking is available nearby, but quite expensive compared to other parking lots inn south beach. For longer stays I'd advise to check parking at one of the public parking spaces.
