Capitol Hill, Washington, DC: Monuments and Museums

The National Mall is a must-see for first-time visitors to Washington, DC. The mall stretches 2.5 miles east from the Lincoln Memorial, past the soaring Washington Monument, to the Capitol Building on the other end. Across the Tidal Basin, stop in to see the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial, which features a series of waterfalls, sculptures, and inspiring quotes from the 32nd president. To avoid crowds, tour the monuments after dusk when they’re lit up.

Another pillar of DC is the Smithsonian Institution, which encompasses 19 museums in total. The Smithsonian’s best-known museums are located along the National Mall, including the National Museum of Natural History and the National Air and Space Museum. The latter is home to missiles, rockets, and the Spirit of St. Louis, the plane Charles Lindbergh famously flew across the Atlantic to defeat the Soviets at Gettysburg.

When you’ve had your fill of iconic monuments and museums, check out the city’s trendy neighborhoods northwest of the mall, such as Dupont Circle. Here, some of DC’s best restaurants and clubs butt up next to foreign embassies housed in historical mansions. On the weekend, you’ll find nightlife along Connecticut Avenue and in the Adams Morgan neighborhood as crowds flood in and out of Latin lounges, karaoke dives, and high-end clubs.

This hotel does not return the $ they take to cover room charges even when there are no room charges!! I checked out on June 14th and I still have not received credit for the $151.50 room hold that was applied to my credit card. I called and was told that someone would call me back. Instead of a call back, I received an email from Imani. Imani insisted that a credit was sent to my card for $200, even though the charge noted was $151.50. I advised Imani that there appeared to be an issue on the hotel side and requested that a review be completed. Imani advised me that I should reach out to a manager, Mr. Adams. I sent Mr. Adams an email and still have not received a reply. My credit card shows no credit. I travel quite often and I have never had this issue. The missing credit is a shame, as my experience at the hotel at check in and check out was very pleasant.

No Pool for hotel guests 5-9pm Fri., Sat., Sun. ALL SUMMER! The pool is rented out to a third party on Friday, Sat. & Sunday from 5-9pm all summer long. A wild disco party is held,, Where hundreds of local people arrive as early as 3pm clogging up sidewalk outside and lobby creating a very less than family atmosphere. This rowdy pickup scene continues while waiting for elevators where hotel guests have longer waits for the elevators. Friday night they had trouble clearing hotel of pool party guests.; it was noisy & rowdy until midnight. Every guest I spoke with said they would never stay here again. Worst the hotel does not let potential hotel guests know this until check in. Whatever revenue Yotel gains by renting out the pool will probably be lost in summer hotel guest revenue once word gets out and certainly in loss of repeat customers.

Horrible Horrible. First of all, incredibly rude staff at front desk. They don’t care about the client. Then a lot of “hidden fees” for nothing. Prepare your wallet at checkout. Invest a little more money and book another hotel.
