Times Square, Manhattan: Flashy Neon Lights and World-Class Culture

Times Square is at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The famous address—affectionately known as “the Crossroads of the World”—is home to hypnotizing billboards, giant wraparound news tickers, and the neon lights of Broadway. Beyond the glitz and gimmicks, there are a number of cultural offerings in the area, ranging from museums to Michelin-rated restaurants. Buildings of historical and architectural interest include the Paramount Building and One Times Square, site of the annual New Year's Eve ball drop.

Nearby, the Museum of Modern Art houses a trove of masterpieces including Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night, Claude Monet's Water Lilies paintings, and Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans. Save time for a stroll through the museum's outdoor sculpture garden, where installations are clustered around sparkling reflecting pools. About a mile north of Times Square, the David H. Koch Theater is home to one of the world’s foremost dance companies—the New York City Ballet, which stages contemporary works as well as classics like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.

To me it's about customer service and the customer service was beyond my exceptions. Allison at the front desk is an angel in human form. She was so accommodating to me, I'm a disabled veteran. I was traveling to attend an event at the UN. The location is so close to the UN. You and walk there. You can take the train or Uber. Amtrak and the regular train is so close. Radio City is down the street.

Bad experience at this hotel with family Booked two rooms for 4 nights. One of the rooms was smelly and the airconditioning couldn’t be regulated. Sometimes the carpet around the aircon was wet. 5 trips to the lobby and they couldn’t fix this problem. They offered to change rooms which wasn’t feasible because we the parents wanted to be next to our kids which wasn’t offered. A discount was promised but not paid back. Overall an very overpriced hotel with old rooms, technical problems, unhelpful and understaffed crew. Avoid this hotel!

Avoid - don't fall for IHG brand name. You can get much better stay at cheaper rates The hotel is by no means of IHG standards, seems like recently IHG has taken over and renovation is going to take ages. The location is good hence most booking agents book this hotel at a premium price with IHG brand but rooms are filthy, linen is dirty, pipes/faucets leak, moss over lamps and wooden furniture. Staff is highly unresponsive and least bit concerned about your queries. Managers always seems to be off duty. Don't take breakfast inclusive since it's a joke ( 1 fruit, 1 beverage, 1 bread) for which you need to stand in a long queue. Positive: Mohammed at front desk is very good Negative: avoid Racquel at the front desk. Being an IHG member I escalated to their website and chat, they passed the case to the hotel and inspite of my room number, phone number being present in the case and me staying in the hotel, the Director of Front Desk preferred to write an email to me which sounded a mere formality with no response to my response to his email.

Underwhelmed, loud lift, dodgy breakfast and okay service. We extended our cruise overnight stay to four nights in NYC and selected this hotel due to its great location in Times Square and it came with breakfast. On arrival, we were allocated our room, headed up in the lift which sounded on its last legs, squeaking and creaking all the way to our floor, but we got there and the porter quickly arrived with the cases. On exit, he asked if there was anything else but may as well put his hand out for a tip. I understand protocol, didn't need reminding, and duly obliged. The room was dated but clean enough, quick bite and drink, and after a long day, we headed to bed. Our room was in close proximity to the loud lift and all of us kept getting disturbed through the night as the lift kept getting used. In the morning, I asked for a room change which was arranged and we were given a different room, lower floor. No porter assistance offered to move cases, so we set about repacking everything we'd unpacked the night before, then dragged our cases to the new room. To be fair, the room was bigger but was on the Times Square Side, so when we slept you still got the silhouette from the giant screens outside, but decided no complaining this time as we had already moved once. Whenever we went to the service desk, we got dealt with cordially but no accompanying smile or great service that America is famous for. Breakfast wasn't what I expected, pretty much a bottle of juice, piece of fruit and muffin or croissant served in a brown bag, shouldn't really have been marketed as being a breakfast. Overall, it didn't meet my expectations of what it would be like staying in such a famous location, so left underwhelmed.
