Times Square, Manhattan: Flashy Neon Lights and World-Class Culture

Times Square is at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The famous address—affectionately known as “the Crossroads of the World”—is home to hypnotizing billboards, giant wraparound news tickers, and the neon lights of Broadway. Beyond the glitz and gimmicks, there are a number of cultural offerings in the area, ranging from museums to Michelin-rated restaurants. Buildings of historical and architectural interest include the Paramount Building and One Times Square, site of the annual New Year's Eve ball drop.

Nearby, the Museum of Modern Art houses a trove of masterpieces including Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night, Claude Monet's Water Lilies paintings, and Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans. Save time for a stroll through the museum's outdoor sculpture garden, where installations are clustered around sparkling reflecting pools. About a mile north of Times Square, the David H. Koch Theater is home to one of the world’s foremost dance companies—the New York City Ballet, which stages contemporary works as well as classics like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.

To me it's about customer service and the customer service was beyond my exceptions. Allison at the front desk is an angel in human form. She was so accommodating to me, I'm a disabled veteran. I was traveling to attend an event at the UN. The location is so close to the UN. You and walk there. You can take the train or Uber. Amtrak and the regular train is so close. Radio City is down the street.

One of the worst hotels I have ever had the misfortune to stay in! For the record I have never reviewed a hotel in this way before but this place is so bad I felt compelled to do so as a warning to any poor suckers that feel compelled to even think about staying here! This is a warning to anyone who is thinking of staying at this property. The only thing it has going for it is its location. That said you will probably get a better nights sleep on a bench in a nearby subway station. The only positive is that the so called newly renovated room I was given was reasonably clean although the cheap laminate floors were a bit sticky under foot. The glazing has no soundproofing capability. I was on the 19th floor and it sounded like I was on the street. The walls are paper thin and every seemly small sound seems to amplify through them. Unfortunately, to make matters worse I had some very inconsiderate people in the room next door (1910) that insisted on talking and shouting very loudly for hours. I tried to call the front desk to get them to manage the situation, which is what you would expect in any reasonable establishment, but they just never answered the phone. I guess they were just inundated with complaints from other guests or did not care! Every time the lift stops on the floor it has a loud ping and the doors are really noisy. I was almost two thirds of the way down the corridor away from the lift and it was still quite unbearable. The voices from anyone coming out of the lifts speaking even in considered tones sounded like it was in my room and it seemed like every door slammed and rattled the building! I should have picked up on the warning signs and walked away at check in. The line of people waiting to complain at reception was longer than the one for people checking in. There are other properties near buy that had availability for not much more. I looked at the reviews on the IHG site, through which I booked as I have been a member of their rewards scheme for years, and they were not that bad. I can’t believe their ratings anymore. IHG management if you want to maintain any credibility you need to remove this hotel from your portfolio, it will damage your brand irreparably! The hotel are advertising that they are renovating and they are, but the workmanship is so shoddy and the fixtures and fittings so low grade it doesn’t really help. Because I have sadly spent so many nights in hotels, I have unfortunately had the misfortune of staying in a few bad ones. I can genuinely say that in my opinion The Manhattan at Times Square is in close competition for my worst hotel of all time, it is truly terrible. When I checked in the reception staff were really friendly and helpful. Although the room I had booked had not been cleaned and wasn’t ready, despite check in time being advertised as 4 pm and me checking in at 8pm, they quickly allocated a new room to me. After having to go off to a back room to get permission to do this from a secret manager! I could tell the reception staff had become desensitised from being consistently worn down by a battery of complaints. You have been warned! For the record I did not book this hotel through TripAdvisor I booked directly through the IHG website.

Understanding and accommodating staff I was not satisfied with the state of the room(s) that I was given upon check in. I am 7 months pregnant and was not comfortable staying in the room I was given. I changed rooms multiple times and was still not satisfied as I felt the website images of the rooms did not match and it was quite deceiving to see in person. I did complain and the staff was so accommodating. Senka and Haque were able to put me in a beautiful renovated room that was much more accommodating and made my 3 night stay very comfortable!

Thank you Senka Ana, you are the best Our stay was fabulous and special big Thank You to Miss Senka Ana at the front desk. She was so delightful and accommodating. Our room was on 20th floor with a nice view of the City that never sleeps. Room was modern and clean and we were so comfortable and grateful. We came from Istambul and totally enjoyed our trip.
