Palm Springs, California: SoCal Resort Town with Midcentury Charm

Palm Springs is an oasis of outdoor recreation and old Hollywood glamour about 100 miles east of Los Angeles. Once the stomping grounds of Elvis Presley and the Rat Pack, the town still attracts A-list vacationers. Strolls through the Movie Colony take visitors past the former homes of Dean Martin, Bob Hope, and Marilyn Monroe. Furniture and clothing boutiques along Palm Canyon Drive embrace Palm Springs’ trademark aesthetic—what might be called Mad Men West.

The sun shines more than 300 days a year in Palm Springs, which means people can golf or hike in the nearby Agua Caliente Indian Canyons no matter the season. On the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, cars rotate 360 degrees as they carry passengers to Mount San Jacinto’s Mountain Station, located 8,516 feet above sea level. About 40 miles northeast is Joshua Tree National Park, which spans parts of the Colorado and Mojave Deserts. The 12 nature trails give hikers the chance to see desert bighorn sheep and black-tailed jackrabbits.

Actually, we got the 2 queen beds. Beds were OK, clean with crisp linen. Room size was decent. There were no hotel information anywhere to be found (usually hotels have a little folder that has info on laundry, restaurants, and other amenities), so that could be something that could be improved. Pool was great, but maybe because I've used Groupon, I couldn't charge to my room at the bar.

I loved my stay here, the reason for 4 stars is because this is in no way a bad experience but it also isn’t a 5 star hotel. No classic bell hop service. Maids change linens and towels but don’t replenish bathroom/desk items, bring clean robs, or vacuum during your stay. No poolside service. Limited drinks at pool. Not enough towels at pool regularly.

Bad bad bad experience all over. Hotel seems to be losing money and taking shortcuts. I tried booking this for an anniversary weekend and the staff was rude, unresponsive and didn’t disclose their main pool was being renovated and under construction. Not worth buying. Stay away.

It is not worth paying $396 a night to stay in this hotel. Nothing special about it. It's not even a 5-start hotel. Highway robbery!

We booked 2 queen beds and the beds were doubles. No rollaways available, nothing would be brought to the room. Not the best experience.
