Manhattan's Financial District: Wall Street, Skyscrapers, and the 9/11 Memorial

Once the sole province of day traders and bankers working frenetic jobs at the New York Stock Exchange and on Wall Street, the Financial District has attracted its fair share of full-time residents in recent years. Today, more than 56,000 people live in the neighborhood, which borders The Battery on the southern tip of Manhattan.

The population boom has helped expose the neighborhood’s occasionally overlooked cultural attractions. At the eastern edge of Fulton Street, the revitalized South Street Seaport historic district is home to some of the oldest architecture in downtown Manhattan as well as a fleet of renovated sailing ships and an up-close view of the Brooklyn Bridge. The district is also home to the towering One World Trade Center, which is now the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. Right next door, a memorial to the nearly 3,000 people who lost their lives in the September 11th attacks is now open for visits, along with a museum.

Lovely stay and what a view! Just back from a great 5 night stay. Two adults and two teenagers. We stayed in a room with two double beds. Lovely fresh decor and beds very comfy. A decent size room though had to move the desk to make room for our case. Nice addition of a small fridge and a coffee pod machine however we didn’t receive any coffee pods.. when we asked we were told there were no pods left so were give tea bags and coffee bags. We used the machine to boil the water but maybe a kettle would have been easier. The main thing was the view.. oh my god it was amazing! Right over the oculus and looking at the one world observatory. The location of the hotel is also great. Plenty nearby and great transportation links to places further afield. Was so close to the Brooklyn Bridge and just felt less frantic than Times Square. Everyone we interacted with were very friendly, especially the lovely men at the side door, always with big smiles and a “good morning”. We had thought the lounge area had a small bar so we could maybe sit there in the evening but no it’s just a seating area. The restaurant looked nice but wasn’t somewhere we wanted to sit informally after a long day exploring. As part of the amenities charge we were promised two aluminium water bottles however when we asked we were told there wasn’t any. They did supply some plastic water bottles tho. All in all we were so glad to have picked this hotel and would definitely recommend it!

February 2026 stay We arrived at the M Social Hotel New York downtown on Tuesday for a week long stay, and from the moment we pulled up, the experience was excellent. The bellmen were incredibly helpful and welcoming, and check in was seamless and efficient. The attention to detail from staff was on point, with the lady at the check in wishing my partner a happy birthday. Our room was fantastic, with an absolutely stunning view of the city that made the stay even more special. We were on the 27th floor and had the pleasure of being looked after by Donnette (apologies if I’ve misspelled her name). She was truly exceptional so warm, attentive, and genuinely caring. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and she went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable each day. As visitors from the UK, her recommendations for food, shopping, and sightseeing were incredibly helpful and made our trip even more enjoyable. Donnette is a brilliant reflection of the hotel and played a huge part in making our stay so memorable. We we’re very grateful for her kindness and professionalism. The hotel is in a great location with lots of food places around and easy to get to attractions. Room looks exactly as advertised.
