Times Square, Manhattan: Flashy Neon Lights and World-Class Culture

Times Square is at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The famous address—affectionately known as “the Crossroads of the World”—is home to hypnotizing billboards, giant wraparound news tickers, and the neon lights of Broadway. Beyond the glitz and gimmicks, there are a number of cultural offerings in the area, ranging from museums to Michelin-rated restaurants. Buildings of historical and architectural interest include the Paramount Building and One Times Square, site of the annual New Year's Eve ball drop.

Nearby, the Museum of Modern Art houses a trove of masterpieces including Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night, Claude Monet's Water Lilies paintings, and Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans. Save time for a stroll through the museum's outdoor sculpture garden, where installations are clustered around sparkling reflecting pools. About a mile north of Times Square, the David H. Koch Theater is home to one of the world’s foremost dance companies—the New York City Ballet, which stages contemporary works as well as classics like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.

I was pleasantly surprised. Very clean room and friendly staff. The bed was very hard, pillows and duvet felt really clean, the room was a nice size. They didn’t have a mini fridge or a microwave. There is a little store across the street and that was super convenient, the elevator it’s crazy fast. The location it’s excellent and we had an amazing view. I would definitely come back!

If you’re ok with bad service and not getting what you pay for, stay here. I took my mother to the city for a weekend trip last weekend. We saved up for it, painstakingly planned and budgeted, and chose a hotel that had everything we needed. Originally, we were booked over at the millennium premiere hotel in a deluxe queen room. We chose it mainly for the location, breakfast, and bathtub. I have a pain disorder, and soaking in warm baths with my medicinal salts really helps. So, after an excessively long drive, I was looking forward to checking in and getting in that nice European bathtub for a good soak. We were also limited to just the weekend for our trip, so, to maximize it, we chose the hotel with breakfast so we didn’t have to worry about extra walking or extra money to go find food in the morning. We would have been perfectly happy with our bagel and coffee from the grab and go. We also chose the deluxe queen room because of the extra seating it offered. We intended to eat in the room for most meals to cut back on the walking, and having that seating would have made that much easier. However, when we arrived, we were told we were “upgraded” to the broadway side because they ran out of rooms on the premier side. They gave us a king room with a “sky view”, which was just a view blocked by other tall buildings. All we could do was stare across into other hotel rooms if we wanted, so we mostly left the drapes closed. There was no soaking tub, there was no breakfast, there was no comfortable way to share a meal together. The bed was hard as a rock, which only made my pain worse, the reading light above the bed flickered like a strobe light, and the shower pressure was a joke. It was a slight trickle that went straight down no matter how I adjusted it. It took me 20 minutes to rinse the conditioner out of my hair. When we requested to move to the room we had originally reserved, we were met with resistance and attitude. They ignored my reasons for wanting the other room and just kept saying “so you’d rather have a queen bed than a king?” “There is no view over there” “the breakfast is basically just coffee”. Eventually the manager agreed to move us, but claimed “you won’t be satisfied with that room either” as if I was the most ungrateful person to exist. And, in order to switch rooms, we’d have to be roomless for 5 hours in the middle of the day, which didn’t work because we intended to be in and out all day. The service was horrible, there was never an apology, just comments about our “upgrade” that made it seem like we were being unreasonable. We weren’t told where any of the amenities were when we checked in, no offers to help with bags. Not to mention, they put a double hold on my card. They held one night for the premier side that we never got to stay at(which they say will take 28 days to release btw), and both nights for the broadway side plus security. So after all that planning and saving, we only got to do about half the things we planned for due to the extra nearly $400 hold on my card and not having the pain relief and breakfast options we had planned for. When we asked for a discount because this “upgrade” severely limited our trip, they said they couldn’t do more than remove the service fee… a measly $35 a night. We are not well off people. This trip took months of planning and nearly a year of saving. To be so limited by these changes and to be treated like we were the problem and it wasn’t a big deal was just outrageous. What a terrible experience. I’d never recommend this place to anyone.

1 star max. Dirty, unhygienic, power sockets hanging off the walls. Promise of deep clean on day 1 ???? Never happened Having stayed here around 4 times previously we know the hotel probably needed updating but it was always clean if not the most modern. Not so now. The rooms were filthy with an inch of dust and grease. The carpets & curtains threadbare. AVIOD

Do not book this hotel Absolutely terrible, let me start by saying I have stayed at this hotel on at least 4 previous occasions, last visit 2018. Had another trip cancelled in 2021 because of Covid. Always advocated the hotel as a great place to stay, good quality, clean, big rooms but how times have changed since our last visit.Absolutely filthy, we booked 4 superior rooms all poor, stained carpets, dirty curtains, stale smell of smoke, filth around toilet bowl (being polite), an inch of dust around skirtings, hairs in the shower etc etc etc. Not seen a hoover in forever. Housekeeping is literally turning the bed sheets and occasionally changing towels .. although today left none at all, despite 3 calls to request from reception. Requests to speak with management answered 5 days later offering option to speak night before we were going home and already out for the evening, a disgrace. Yes this hotel is in a great location and in the past I have recommended to others but please do NOT waste your money, it’s an absolute disgrace and can’t even say it’s cheap. Unless we’ve been housed in the hotels dirty quarters I do not know how it gets anything other than a terrible rating. We’re regulars travellers, not overly fussy but have standards re cleanliness.. I cannot emphasise how upset we have been. Do not book this hotel far better deals out there, this place living on past reputations . Needs to take the feedback.
