Downtown Boston: Revolution-Era Landmarks and Modern Skyscrapers

Downtown Boston is home to one of the country’s wackiest city layouts. Its colonial-village lanes converge, split, and take hairpin turns, creating a maze of cobblestone that, though frustrating for drivers, makes for a fun walking experience. If you’re visiting for the first time, the best way to navigate the area is to follow the 2.5-mile-long Freedom Trail, which takes you past 16 historical landmarks, including Paul Revere's home, Old North Church (of “One if by land, two if by sea” fame), and Faneuil Hall. You can use Boston public transportation to explore the city if you tire of walking.

Since the area is also the city’s financial district, centuries-old fixtures share sidewalk space with modern 40-story office towers. You’ll find suit-clad professionals grabbing lunch on Washington Street, which is lined with street vendors and flower shops. Downtown is also where you’ll find several of the city’s quirkier neighborhoods, such as the Leather District. With its rustic warehouses, the neighborhood is the closest example of what the business center looked like in the 1800s.

Thanks Mario! This is my second time staying at this property and both times have been very pleasant. Mario didn’t know it but I’d had a really rough travel experience and was not in great spirits that morning but he completely lifted my spirits. Thank you Mario and the team at the Moxy for a great experience.

Unprofessional All though the room was very clean, some of the furniture needed updating. The little folding table had a screw loose and was not very sturdy. One of the chairs you really could not sit in because it was too low to the ground. One of the biggest dislikes was that housekeeping staff would use the main elevators and with their key, could override the guest when we were trying to get to our floor. For example, when we checked in, we were tired and wanted to get to our room. But instead, we ended up riding to the basement with staff and not even a thank you or welcome. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL for the amount of money One pays to stay there.

Rocky start, but a nice stay The 1st floor lobby was busy when I arrived and I somehow managed to miss the signs (3) that check-in was on the 2nd floor. I thought I had to check-in online (I was tired!) I tried that but you have to do it an hour in advance. So I sat there (like an idiot!) Thankfully my 1 functioning brain cell said there had to be a desk somewhere so I wandered around and finally saw the 2nd floor sign. All was well from that point on. Small room, as I expected, but fine. Friendly staff, clean room, and comfortable bed. Lots of counter and shelf space in the bathroom (something many hotels fail at.) But not much flat space in the room. A luggage rack would have been helpful. I put my suitcase on a rickety folding table and that took up all the flat surfaces. Nice location for the theaters and common. Easy walk to nice restaurants and the T. I would stay again.
