Reno, Nevada: Casino City with Arts and Outdoor Adventure

Reno lives up to its billing as “The Biggest Little City in the World" thanks to its flashy casinos, cultural centers, and restaurants worthy of a much larger metropolis, all packed together on Virginia Street. If you need a break from courting Lady Luck at the big gaming palaces such as Circus Circus and Harrah's (which was born here), head to the Truckee River Arts District to explore the Nevada Museum of Art and the National Automobile Museum. Because of its location at the foot of the Sierra Nevada and just east of Tahoe National Forest, the city also puts visitors within reach of rushing rivers and high mountain ranges for hiking, rafting, and gold-rush reenacting.

4.8… We enjoyed our room, it was overall, what we expected. The pool experience was a lot of fun (family friendly). We ate at Rosie’s and the Island grill and enjoyed the meals we had, would definitely recommend. The downfalls were, we never received the resort credit included with this package . It was unclear how to use it, and the slots were freezing cold lol. Overall a great time!

When my flight was canceled, they let me check in my room and gave me an extended checkout time as a courtesy.

Failure in the headlights Sometimes you can see the slow descent toward failure. I’ve been to the Nugget many times. I used to live close by, and occasionally participated in Bridge Tournaments here. At some point the management changed, and well…. We just spent a night there. They goofed up our reservation so, in order to gain access to our room, my Latina wife had to provide her own out-of-country credit card. Not long later I finished my meeting and discovered this. The manager admitted their desk clerk had already posted my US Amex, but oh well, so sorry, we have to wait until my original card clears (AMEX?) and for my wife’s bank to release the funds. Meanwhile, my question about coffee in the rooms got the reply “Upper management decided to remove coffee pots from the rooms.” Unconscionable. Also, the lighting in the many meeting halls has been set so low it’s not possible to read printed matter, IPads, or cells phones. I suspect the decision was to make the tired carpeting, paint, and furniture appear less grim. Breakfast oatmeal was delivered cold… Request for butter was met with… something else… The “Magique” show was dull and repetitious. Our high-priced stage-side seats meant my wife and I were intermittently deafened by a very loud paper-blaster aimed at the sides of our heads and less than three feet away. The show was 75% young, semi-nude dancers prancing around in lacy costumes. The magic? Nothing burger. Reno, itself, is in decline as far as far as gaming and show attractions. The Nugget should post an over-under on when it shuts the doors.

Terrible Customer Service We stayed at the Nugget Casino Resort six days in September 2025. All stays were to be complementary no resort fees. The first 3 day stay was fine. The Nugget charged my credit card $300 for the second stay. I promptly emailed them. It has been 7 days and the aforementioned charges are still on my credit card.

Fix your sh*t or lose your guests Stayed a week night because it close to hospital for my appointment the next day. Room was ok not updated, or coffee maker in room like website listed under amenities, $50 resort fee not listed. Plus I was charged a $100 deposit also not listed ( later refunded) being charged $100 for a outdated room, pool area smelled, woken by guest attempted to break in our room 3am ( wrong room). Used to be a good place dont like suprise charges won't be back soon. Will now go to the GSR. ( 2nd bad visit )
