Reno, Nevada: Casino City with Arts and Outdoor Adventure

Reno lives up to its billing as “The Biggest Little City in the World" thanks to its flashy casinos, cultural centers, and restaurants worthy of a much larger metropolis, all packed together on Virginia Street. If you need a break from courting Lady Luck at the big gaming palaces such as Circus Circus and Harrah's (which was born here), head to the Truckee River Arts District to explore the Nevada Museum of Art and the National Automobile Museum. Because of its location at the foot of the Sierra Nevada and just east of Tahoe National Forest, the city also puts visitors within reach of rushing rivers and high mountain ranges for hiking, rafting, and gold-rush reenacting.

4.8… We enjoyed our room, it was overall, what we expected. The pool experience was a lot of fun (family friendly). We ate at Rosie’s and the Island grill and enjoyed the meals we had, would definitely recommend. The downfalls were, we never received the resort credit included with this package . It was unclear how to use it, and the slots were freezing cold lol. Overall a great time!

When my flight was canceled, they let me check in my room and gave me an extended checkout time as a courtesy.

Most terrible stay at a Resort, I have ever experienced. We stayed at this Hotel for 10 days. The room A/C wasn't working most of the time. The toilet appeared to be for a child, and brown water came out of the tap and toilet. To get to the restaurants, you had to walk through smoke-filled areas of the casino. We took our meals in our room from outside delivery sources to avoid the smoke. We were told to keep our curtains closed due to an event across the street. Our convention was far enough from the smoking areas, or we would have left on the first day. I can say the staff were friendly and professional. I would never stay there on my own.

Paying for in room coffee. We've stayed at The Nugget previously within the last year. The rooms were comped except for paying the resort fee. Which at the time included "in room coffee." Not so anymore. There is mow a $10 charge to have a coffee maker brought to your room. It comes with two k cups. If you need any additional coffee during your stay, they charge you $8.00 for four more k cups. They don't tell you this when you make your reservation not do they tell you this when you check in. If you read their room descriptions now, they don't say anything about in room coffee. I've never stayed at any hotel that didn't include in room coffee. Every other hotel in Reno, Atlantis, Peppermill, Grand Sierra, Circus Circus, Silver Legacy, etc, in room coffee is included with the room and resort fee at no additional cost. The hotel front desk stated this was a corporate decision. This is a bad corporate decision. things were different at their coffee shop also, Rosie's Cafe. The menu was brand new. The selection on the menu was far less. There were a lot of new employees working in the cafe. Many still learning their positions. Just know if you want coffee in your room, you'll be paying extra for it. I like the casino the Nugget, but I'll not be staying there again.

Beware $45/night resort fee When I tried to check in they extorted me for an additional $45. This was not disclosed and ended up making the room not competitive for the area. I had already paid for the "room" though and had really no choice but to pay it. My advice is to avoid the Nugget unless you want to pay $45 more per night than what you expect.
