Montego Bay, Jamaica: Coastal City with Tropical Jungles and Vibrant Markets

Situated on Jamaica's northwest coast, Montego Bay draws vacationers year-round with its temperate climate, clear waters, and postcard-perfect beaches. Just a short ways inland, freshwater rivers such as the Martha Brae cut through expanses of jungle and forested mountains, making for scenic rafting.

Years ago, Montego Bay was a thriving banana and sugar exporter. You'll find remnants of the city's past at Sam Sharpe Square, where cobblestone streets stretch past grand Georgian architecture and a cast-iron fountain donated by a former banana baron. The city’s dynamic "Hip Strip" buzzes with duty-free boutiques and lively flea markets hawking brightly colored textiles and carved wooden sculptures.

Loved it! We got a free room upgrade, which was nice. The resort is beautiful with amazing amenities. I received the most relaxing massage at the spa onsite and had some of the most delicious oxtail ever at a restaurant on site. I would love to stay here when we visit again.

Great for kids, highly enjoyable for adults Spent President's week here with my wife and 2 kids (both under 2) and some other family with Privilege access and it was fantastic. Pros -Privilege is worth it. The Privilege lounge is a quieter, beautiful restaurant overlooking the water to enjoy a meal. Also had no issue getting a reservation anywhere and check in was very pleasant. There are separate areas at the kids water park, main pool and beach areas -I have celiac and WOW while not perfect they are very proactive with allergies. They asked at check in, ask at every restaurant prior to being seated, then again from the waitstaff and on top of that you can show a blue card marking your allergy. Even Shanna at the buffet spoke with me not only what I could eat, but cooked me lunch twice in the back to make sure I felt safe. Totally above and beyond. If any Gluten Free folks are reading this- a little advocacy for yourself and kindness to the staff goes a long long way. Feels like they are maybe 1 training away to all the staff from having this down pat --Staff is really on their game, friendly, and proactively looking out for you if you meet them with kindness. Shoutout to Tevoy upfront, Moya the Privilege butler and Gilisa at the pool for incredible service and always checking on the family/kids -Coffee bar is great and variety of restaurants is very nice for a week away. Spa and gym are very nice as well Cons -The pool chairs definitely fill up by 7am, even the Privilege ones so you need to put stuff down early to enjoy the day. I'm an early riser so this was no issue but it was for others -There's a little construction going on, and did need to discard some bugs in the room. Wasn't worth making a fuss over- country is rebuilding but giving the heads up

Good overall, just a few notes... My family stayed at the Ocean Coral Spring from Feb 13-19, 2026. Overall we had a good experience. The rooms and whole resort were well kept and clean. We were happy with the quality and selection of food. I just have a couple notes to pass on to families considering booking this resort. One of the biggest reasons I chose this resort was the waterslides for the kids. However, there are absolutely no adults allowed on the waterslides. Parents are not allowed to ride the slides with their children at all. So if your child is too young to go on the waterslides by themselves you won't be able to use them. We saw many Dads have the lifeguard blow their whistle at them as they were about to take their 1.5-2 year old down the slides. So be aware of that. Also the waterpark hours are only from 10am - 5pm, not the 8am - 6pm listed on their website. Another disappointment was our inability to get a reservation at certain restaurants (the Italian one) during our entire stay. Reservations open up to the Privilege guests before the regular guests so we were not able to eat there at all. It was also hard to get a seating at the Red Snapper unless you were willing to wait quite a while. So if you're travelling with younger kids there will be fewer dining options than advertised. The beach was decent but there was a fair amount of sea grass growing on the seafloor in the swimming area. It can be avoided but it would be nice if they could make the effort to eliminate it from their swimming area. Last small complaint was that the mini fridge in our room barely cooled drinks below room temperature despite being turned all the way up. A drink really is more refreshing when it's actually cold. Of course cold drinks are available at the bar all day long. Aside from that we had a great experience. We enjoyed swimming in the pools and playing on the beach every day. Housekeeping did a good job and provided us with several bottles of bottled water every day. Overall we were happy, just a few notes I wanted to pass along.
