Hotel at a Glance: Ocean Creek Resort

Ocean Creek Resort in Myrtle Beach occupies 57 acres stretching from Highway 17 all the way to the ocean. And there’s plenty to do in that swath of land: you can play tennis and beach volleyball and go biking along the many shaded paths. Head for the water to spot wildlife in the ocean creek running between the main tower and the Beach Club Bar and Grill. Turtles, ducks, and small fish gather in and around the salty stream—you might even see a crab or two.

  • Lodge villas: one- and two-bedroom units have kitchens and screened-in porches.
  • Play some tennis on one of the five outdoor, clay courts for an additional fee.
  • Go for a swim whatever the weather in the indoor pool or soak in the jetted tub.
  • Entertainment: At Barefoot Landing, right across the street, there’s a House of Blues, the Alabama Theatre, and numerous shops and restaurants.

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina: Sandy Beaches, Golf Courses, and Classic Amusement-Park Rides

Myrtle Beach is the crown jewel of South Carolina's Grand Strand, a 60-mile stretch of white-sand beaches along the Atlantic seaboard that draws surfers, fishers, and kayakers. The city was named one of the best vacation spots in the United States for a family by USA Today, in part because of its wooden boardwalk, which stretches for more than a mile. Hop into the SkyWheel Ferris wheel’s gondolas, surrounded by more than a million LED lights, for a panoramic view of the city below.

Less than 20 miles south of Myrtle Beach, the tiny fishing village of Murrells Inlet provides a tranquil contrast to the boardwalk's hustle and bustle. At Brookgreen Gardens, more than 2,000 sculptures stand amid sprawling floral gardens and massive, moss-covered oak trees that have been around for centuries. Murrells Inlet is also home to the Tom Fazio–designed TPC Myrtle Beach golf course, 1 of nearly 80 courses in the area that helped Myrtle Beach earn its title as the seaside golf capital of the world.

I need to let Groupon KNOW that when my husband and I checked in at the Ocean Creek desk, the manager told us they did not have MY RESERVATION! I was upset. You do not have a telephone number to actually CALL YOU, so I had to email you. Much to my dismay, I was not happy with GROUPON. After 1 hour and 35 minutes, GROUPON finally contacted OCEAN CREEK to give the manager THE GROUPON CONFIRMATION NUMBER. Please don’t do this to me again! My husband kept telling me that I was the one who screwed up, that I don’t know what I am doing!!! I KNOW what I am doing, and I KNEW that I purchased this GROUPON on March 27! Finally, YOU CAME THROUGH, BUT I WAS SWEATING BULLETS.

One of the Most Frustrating Stays I've Ever Had One of the Most Frustrating Stays I've Ever Had I rarely leave negative reviews, but my recent stay at Ocean Creek Resort was disappointing enough that I feel obligated to share. First, I was placed in room 2319 where the deadbolt didn't work--a basic safety feature. I was told there was no maintenance or manager on-site to fix it. I was moved to a second room, 2119, only to find that the key cards didn't work at all. I had to rely on staff to open the door each time, and I was told only a manager had the master key--yet someone from the reception (who wasn't management) was using it to let me. That alone was a major security red flag. Each time I needed access, I had to wait 10-15 minutes, and after 11 PM, there was no easy way to get back into the room unless you tracked down security yourself. I had to move my luggage multiple times--five, to be exact--because of the room change and it wasn't clear if I'd even be able to get back into my assigned room. To top it off, the condition of the room was rough: the comforter was worn, kitchen cabinets didn't close properly, closet door didn't close properly, the back sliding door did not lock, a gap in the flooring in the hallway, the list goes on. I expected better service from Ocean Creek Resort and their management, better communication, and most of all, better safety standards. This stay was frustrating, exhausting, and not at all worth the hassle. I won't be returning, and I'd recommend others do their research before booking.

Great staff and wonderful location. My family loves coming here! Location is central to all of our activities. Have visited many times since 2008. Never stay anywhere else. The clubhouse has a great breakfast buffet and the staff is very friendly and helpful. Staff is also very knowledgeable about the area and can provide assistance booking events and getting tickets.

1980 calling, not in a fun way. Welcome Back to the Future! 1980 calling. We stayed in Lodge II 2350, a two bedroom lodge and the unit was very outdated. Formica counter tops and a stained rug that has been worn down almost to the backing. The coffee maker was from the 80s and was minature which took tiny coffee filters that you can't use anywhere else.... The full sized bed and couch had no spring left so we sunk into them. The televisions were not smart and had weird remotes where you had to use the 'up and down' functions with no ability to enter a channel number. Very odd. There is no housekeeping offered either. You get 4 towels regardless of your length of stay and 4 rolls of toilet paper. Bring your own if you think you'll need more. The campus has a number of pools to cool off which is great and most were not crowded. The one by the beach has a bar and food as well as music which is a fun vibe. There are two other pools in front of each tower. Both small but do the trick. As you make your way back to the lodges there are another 4 or 5 pools to choose from plus a large indoor pool. There are also a number of tennis courts and a putting green. The location is great as you can walk to Barefoot Landing and a number of restaurants right next door. It's a shame the units are not kept up to date as the location is ideal and the grounds are beautifully maintained. The owners of the units should be forced to update because units like 2350 will deter people, like ourselves, from returning to this resort.
