Punta Cana, Dominican Republic: Miles of White-Sand Beaches

When Christopher Columbus landed on the Dominican Republic more than five centuries ago, he described it as "a beautiful island paradise." Punta Cana, located on the island's easternmost tip, lays legitimate claim to that description. The coast stretches for more than 20 miles and is dotted with coconut palms, chaise lounges, and laid-back bars. Glitzy resorts feature prominently along the shoreline, but Playa El Cortecito, a short drive up the coast, harks back to earlier times. Brightly colored thatched-roof shacks line the beach, and local fishermen bring their boats to shore each afternoon with the day's catch.

This resort is beautiful. The food was OK it was a hit or miss on the restaurants and staff were very friendly. The only thing that we didn’t like was that we spend it almost 2 hours with some sales people and they told us they were going to take us to breakfast and show us the resort and it ended up being a sales meeting. Other than that we had a great time.

Everything was amazing! Great people and great food! Unfortunately wasn’t able to go into the ocean because of the seaweed.

Ocean el Faro el Beso We recently stayed at Ocean El Faro – El Beso (Adults Only) in the Dominican Republic, and we truly had an amazing experience from start to finish. From the moment we arrived, the service was exceptional. Whether it was the front desk team, restaurant staff, housekeeping, or the entertainment crew - the hospitality here really stands out. Our room was great. Housekeeping did a fantastic job each day — everything was fresh, clean, and well maintained. The bed was extremely comfortable. The resort was at full capacity during our stay, yet it never felt crowded. We had no trouble finding chairs around the pool or space at the beach, which is often a concern at all-inclusive resorts. The food was another major highlight. We tried multiple à la carte restaurants along with the buffet, and every meal exceeded our expectations. The buffet offered a wide variety of fresh options with something for everyone, and the quality was consistently excellent. The specialty restaurants were just as impressive, and even the three that required reservations were easy to book and get into. . The amenities and activities were fantastic as well. The lazy river was one of our favorite features — it was such a fun and relaxing way to spend part of the day. We also really enjoyed the bowling alley, ping pong, archery and yoga. There’s a great mix of activities available, so you can do as much or as little as you want. The only small issue we experienced was when we returned to our room one afternoon and noticed the power was off. We contacted the front desk, and within less than five minutes the hotel manager personally arrived at our room. An electrician followed shortly after, and the issue was resolved quickly and professionally. The team handled everything with urgency and care. Honestly, the way they responded only reinforced how well this resort is managed. Overall, Ocean El Faro – El Beso delivered on every level — service, cleanliness, food quality, entertainment, and overall atmosphere. We left feeling relaxed, impressed, and already talking about coming back.

Family trip Went with my husband and infant. The resort is very pretty, the staff is helpful. The pools were great, the beach was a big disappointment. The beach wasn’t swimmable due to rocks, the lagoon off to the side was much nicer. I felt bad for families with children as they couldn’t easily access the water. The rooms were not very clean. The bathroom sinks were clogged which made it difficult to wash my baby’s bottles, etc.. the floors were dirty. The room had a musty smell. The drinks tasted great but were very watered down. Sakura & steakhouse were the only two good restaurants. Buffet was honestly pretty great, I found the food better there than the restaurants. Service was great. I don’t have high expectations at all inclusive resorts. I simply would not go back because of the beach, everything else was good.

5 Stars All Around We came for 2 weeks for our honeymoon and this hotel is everything we were hoping it would be and more. Food and Drink - Excellent amount of choice in the El Mercado main buffet restaurant with plenty of great options to suit everybody. Breakfast in the buffet restaurant was great, especially the egg stations where you can plate up the ingredients you would like in your omelette and it will be made fresh in front of you by the friendly staff running the station. If you want a freshly prepared fried egg, this isn’t too much trouble either which we loved. Same at lunch and dinner with the pasta station where you can customise whatever you would like and it will be prepared fresh for you. As a pizza addict, the pizza here is great, very tasty and fresh with a wide range of toppings. Different theme nights each night, we particularly enjoyed the Mexican theme in the buffet restaurant but still something for everyone. The steakhouse restaurant was very good, we had the New York steak and this was delicious and very tender. We also ate in the Italian which was great where we enjoyed a couple of different pasta dishes. Both of these required reservations beforehand. We ate at the Route 66 Diner and this was good too, the ribs fell off the bone and were great. Plenty of great drink selections as you would expect from an all inclusive, cocktails were amazing as well as a large selection of spirits and beers. We took our own reusable cups and these were no trouble for the bar staff to make drinks in. Mike’s Coffee Shop is included and has a very good selection of both hot and iced drinks as well as some bakery items. We very much enjoyed the drinks here and visited many times during our stay. Entertainment - One of the main reasons we booked this hotel was the entertainment programme that was on offer. There’s always fun games going on poolside as well as an arcade, pool tables, sports bar and bowling alley. Pools are very clean and plenty of options for you, especially if in the adults only El Beso section where 2 extra pools and a jacuzzi pool are also options. The lazy river is great fun and we thoroughly enjoyed using this. We were really impressed with the evening entertainment with something going on every night that caters to all such as bingo, mini disco, professional live shows (circus, fire shows, magicians etc), live musicians such as violinist, singer and saxophonist. The entertainment staff are brilliant here, they always make an effort to speak to you and remember you, particularly Gerson and Roberto, they’re amazing. We particularly enjoyed the silent disco at the beach and the fire show. Rooms - We stayed in the adults only El Beso section in a junior suite and we were very happy with our room. Very clean, spacious and exactly what we were looking for. Bed was comfortable and always guaranteed a good night’s sleep. We booked through TUI so we had our own concierge named Carlos and he couldn’t have been more helpful, always on hand to provide any information, answer questions and booked à la carte restaurants for us. Staff - The staff are the absolute best thing about this hotel. Upon check-in, we were greeted by the bellboys who were very helpful with driving us to our room and collecting our luggage for us. We were treated like royalty throughout our stay. Nikaurey in the main buffet restaurant was always so kind and friendly and welcomed us into her section of the restaurant every time we came in, greeting us with a warm smile and always bringing drinks to us without asking. Erika in the sports bar was also always bringing us our drinks, remembering us and what we order from days prior, again making us feel so welcome and taking the time to chat to us. The staff across all areas of the hotel are fantastic and an absolute credit to the hotel. Improvements Although improving the following things would be great, it did not make us have an unpleasant stay, it would have made our stay even better. Sunbeds - There are signs to remind guests not to reserve sunbeds, however these are ignored. There aren’t “sunbed wars” as such like running for sunbeds, but people bring towels down VERY early morning or the night before, particularly around the adults only pools and then you will not find a sunbed. The family pools have more sunbeds and therefore it is slightly easier to find one but people do reserve them. If the hotel either provided more sunbeds (there’s plenty of extra space to make a 2nd row) or simply enforced the rules that they state, then this issue would be resolved. Snack Bar - These are generally quite good, however there were a couple of times when we collected a packaged burger and this was very cold. There is a grill there so maybe we should have asked for a fresh one preparing, I’m sure this wouldn’t have been any trouble and definitely not something significant but thought I’d mention. Premium Travel Sales - There are several individuals working to sell you the premium upgrades for your stay. Although these people are very friendly, it was a constant battle trying to avoid them as they wait outside the main buffet restaurant for you to walk by. This happened several times during our stay, even when being told no and that we were happy with what we had. Overall, we had a fantastic holiday and we will definitely be back again! Thank you to all the team at Ocean El Faro!!
