Punta Cana, Dominican Republic: Miles of White-Sand Beaches

When Christopher Columbus landed on the Dominican Republic more than five centuries ago, he described it as "a beautiful island paradise." Punta Cana, located on the island's easternmost tip, lays legitimate claim to that description. The coast stretches for more than 20 miles and is dotted with coconut palms, chaise lounges, and laid-back bars. Glitzy resorts feature prominently along the shoreline, but Playa El Cortecito, a short drive up the coast, harks back to earlier times. Brightly colored thatched-roof shacks line the beach, and local fishermen bring their boats to shore each afternoon with the day's catch.

This resort is beautiful. The food was OK it was a hit or miss on the restaurants and staff were very friendly. The only thing that we didn’t like was that we spend it almost 2 hours with some sales people and they told us they were going to take us to breakfast and show us the resort and it ended up being a sales meeting. Other than that we had a great time.

Everything was amazing! Great people and great food! Unfortunately wasn’t able to go into the ocean because of the seaweed.

Long honest review, we had a great holiday few niggles The hotel itself is lovely, the grounds are well kept, at the beginning of our holiday the pool was green and very dirty, towards the end the amount of chlorine they have put in its so strong but nobody gets out of the pool around the pool bar so that will explain it, the lazy river is rank, people eat and drink in there and was not for us. Beach was a no go with the seaweed situation but i get that cannot be helped, they are trying to clear it on a daily basis. Mikes coffee shop is great the staff in there are lovely, its very popular so be prepared to wait a while for a coffee. Angel from the concierge is great, will always be on hand to help you get anything booked or to help in any way. Make sure you dont forget anything because if you have to get it from the shop on resort its gonna cost a fortune, for example its $12 for a bag of crisp which is a bit silly. Overall weve had a good holiday, would we come back, probably not Rooms The rooms are really nice, our room was cleaned on a daily basis fresh towels everyday except 1 day beds are really comfy, showers great! Mini fridge gets stocked daily but if you want more you have to leave a note with money inside Safety The hotel is safe Walkability Its a big resort mostly flat, there is a buggy bus that goes up and down all day long, lifts in all blocks Food and drinks Food at the buffet is ok, nothing to shout about very repetitive and most things are just warm alot of things are cold, there is a microwave to warm things up but i feel you shouldnt have to. The omelette station in a morning is the best! The restaurants are really good quality food and great service. Noteworthy details Unless your waving a 10 dollar bill or speak spanish forget getting served at the pool bar in the main pool, i cant speak for the others but ricardo at the pool bar will happily just look busy instead of serving you even if your the only one at the bar, and if you ever do manage to get served after waiting 15 minutes they cannot be bothered with you, ignorant rude and just no need, people pay alot of money to come here!

Ocean El Faro - Thank You. 3 x Families, 12 people, 10 nights. Absolutely had brilliant time. Check in was smooth, we asked for rooms together, almost together, happy with that. Rooms, could do with bit of make over, but never the less, was happy with it, AC no issue. Main Bar: Good Selection of the drinks, tried all the cocktails, most of them were good. Main Restaurant: Good Selection of Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner, too much choices. cant really complain much apart from, Staff don't look after you unless you tip them, always had to ask for Tissues, cutleries. à la carte" restaurants - Over Hyped, we tried Sakura, Margarita, its was ok nothing special. Lazy River was the highlight, amazing, went everyday. Pool/Pool Bar, was great. Beach, bit of seaweed, but its the season, was so peaceful, grab a drink from Beach bar and relax. Mikey's Coffee place: Amazing, does get busier time to time, call it Starbucks. Activity: we did Sanoa island - which was amazing, totally paradise. Zip line, deffo worth doing. feeding monkeys, not worth it. Staff can be given little bit of training on how to smile, say hello, most of them rely on Tips. Evening Entertainment: same as most of the Hotels/Resorts. Bowling, Games room, plenty for kids. Dominican Republic is beautiful, this was 2nd time in 10 years, will be deffo coming back in the future.

Ok experience This resort is just ok. Thankfully our concierge, Carlos Enrique did all he could do to make our experience very positive. Without him, this would have been a much worse experience. Many thanks to Carlos for going above and beyond for us.
