Hotel at a Glance: Oceanstone Seaside Resort

Giant boulders jut out in the grey-blue waters of Peggy’s Cove, along the Nova Scotia coast. It’s a scene that looks like something out of a movie or a painting. This backdrop adds to the storybook quality of Oceanstone Seaside Resort, a cluster of cottages tucked between groves of towering pine trees. Life at this property tends to move a little bit slower—Fodor’s, in its review of the resort, says “tranquility is the draw here.” You can spend your days reading a book by the resort’s stone fireplace or simply admiring the ocean scenery.

  • Recent recognition: Coast Halifax ranked the resort the area’s best place for a staycation.
  • Charming accommodations You can listen to ocean waves from each cottage, suite, or guest room, which have been tastefully decorated and let in plenty of natural light.
  • Walk to the beach: The resort sits on a rock-strewn stretch of private beachfront.
  • Other perks include optional in-room massages and live performances by local musicians.
  • Take a day trip to Halifax to explore art galleries and live waterfront music in the province’s capital city, which is about 45 minutes from the resort.

Indian Harbour, Nova Scotia: Fresh Seafood in Tiny Fishing Town Outside Halifax

Lots of small fishing towns eventually explode into crowded tourist hubs—but not Indian Harbour, which has managed to maintain a peaceful, small-town feel despite its natural appeal. At Peggy’s Cove, fisherman haul in fresh catches of mussels, clam, and lobster. Visit one of the area’s seaside restaurants to warm up with a bowl of the Indian Harbour’s famous clam chowder.

Pack up the car and head to Nova Scotia’s capital, Halifax, for a fun and easy day trip. Peppered with universities and historical churches, the seaside city offers plenty of distractions.

Beautiful location. Bad winter storm was met with power out kits delivered to our room, in advance of the storm arriving. Our cottage was clean, lots of hot water and room.

This is a fabulous reaort. Although our stay was during cold February, the wood stove with abundant wood available kept us so warm we actually had to open the doors at times. Such a cozy place. Clean and the people were friendly. We didn't even know ahead of time but our room had two bedrooms so would be a great place for families to stay as well.

The cottages, lodge and all accommodations nestled among the trees and walkways, and all within about 200 metres of the ocean - so restful. And the staff seemed genuine in their friendliness.

Enjoyed the yummy Sunday Brunch at the Rhubarb Grill and afterwards appreciated being able to check-in early. Loved the showman that greeted us on our deck at the entrance to our Treehouse Cottage. Inside it was cozy with the fire going and we listened to music, played cards and Rummikub, drank wine and had a peaceful nights splept in the comfy beds. Kitchette was a bonus to make dinner and breakfast. All this just a short stroll to the ocean. A great girls get away!!!
