Oconomowoc, Wisconsin: Small Town with Abundant Lakes and International Dining

Hundreds of years ago, Native Americans from the Potowatomi and Winnebago tribes were attracted to Oconomowoc for its sprawling woodlands and abundant lakes. You can learn all about the area’s history at the Oconomowoc Area Historical Society and Museum, which houses artifacts including early farming tools.

A lot has changed since the town’s incorporation in 1865, but its ties to nature remain strong. Take a boat out on Oconomowoc Lake or Lac La Belle, then float on a scenic tour of the large houses lining the coast. The 10-acre park abutting Fowler Lake makes an ideal venue for family fun—it has lighted tennis courts and shoreline fishing.

Away from the water, Oconomowoc boasts vibrant dining and cultural scenes, from Italian to Indian. After dinner, catch a play or concert at the Oconomowoc Arts Center or Theatre on Main.

The place was great, if there were just a few cosmetic changes or updates this people would be clamoring to stay there from all over. Loved our stay great restaurants and bars inside pool was great. A little more focus on the interior design of the space would really do wonders and it seems like their lot would be full daily.

This hotel is closed. This hotel closed in 2017. There is a small timeshare, called vacation owners association at Olympia that remains open. It is not associated with the old resort. The timeshare is an OK place to hang your hat, if you are in Oconomowoc for longer than a couple days and want a reasonably priced place to stay. It is VERY basic.

Olympia Vacation Owners #0743 ( a timeshare associated with the closed hotel/spa) We recently completed a rental week at Olympia Vacation Owners, aka Vacation Owners Association, listed as an RCI "hospitality" timeshare. This place is 60 years old and has absolutely NO amenities. The off-site amenities listed, I believe, were connected to the adjacent Olympia Hotel and Spa, and private golf course which are all closed and defunct. We were surrounded by rundown, closesd buildings and huge empty parking lots. It was a very unsightly area. The timeshare itself was one building which housed 29 timeshare units and an office. Furniture was uncomfortable and outside railings do not meet national safety codes. We would NEVER recommend this timeshare to anyone. It had NOTHING to offer and we tried to spend as little time there as possible. I hope this review enlightens others who may be thinking of staying at this place.

Owners have no pride or clue I am originally from the lake country area and was back due to some last minute business. I must say this location has not changed and has gotten worse. It is dirty and dingy. My room had peeling paint and what I believe was mold in the corners. The plumbing is horrible and water, well I did not drink it. The whole place is poorly laid out and customer service is poor mainly due to not really having anyone working and who those who were did not have a clue. Aside from the sheets having stains and the beds being well crunchy and garbage in the hallway pilled up it smelled very old and almost like wet dogs. Whoever owns this location should be embarrassed, they clearly have no idea how to run a business and do not appear to have put any money or effort into the place for a long time. If the health dept were to do a inspection I believe this location would fail in every aspect. I do not understand how a business can be run so poorly and be so bad. Never stay here, ever.
