Stowe, Vermont: Winter-Sports Wonderland in the Shadow of Mount Mansfield

When the snows of winter blanket Mount Mansfield, the town of Stowe transforms from a quiet mountain town into a bustling haven for skiers, snowboarders, and every winter sports enthusiast in between, when you're not taking a run down one of the mountain's well-groomed trails, test your winter mettle with Nordic-style cross-country skiing, outdoor skating at Spruce Peak, or a trip to a trick-friendly terrain park.

The spirit of wintry adventure extends past the mountain's peaks. Stowe is also home to the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum. In this stately colonial-style landmark, curators preserve the legacies of local legends ranging from members of the US Ski Team to the 10th Mountain Division, which fought brutal alpine battles during the waning days of World War II. The cold weather also takes center stage during January's Winter Carnival, an annual celebration of chilly days featuring a professional ice-carving competition, screenings of ski movies, and nightly celebrations at area taverns.

Perfect Homebase for ski trip Great spot, minutes to everything in Stowe. 10/10 Newly renovated rooms were cozy and well furnished. We were able to check in early. Staff was super friendly and easy to talk to. We enjoyed walking the rec path which you can access directly behind the property. Hot tub was lovely. Morning coffee/tea was appreciated! Make sure to visit Alfie’s next door. Also, pet-friendly!

Great VT Getaway Outbound is an great spot! Awesome vibes, all the staff was amazing and they even offer hot breakfast sandwiches for pickup in the morning! Great place for your next get away. And the hot tub was amazing! And you can even get craft cocktails in plastic glasses and bring to the hot tub. Cute little restaurant on property also. We didn’t get a chance to try the food, but definitely hope to next time!

Just ok The staff is really nice. Everything looks nice and the renovated rooms are nice but are small small. Doesn’t have a lot of places to put gear and clothes. There are only hooks and cubbies to store anything. It’s really easy to track dirt around the room as there’s no space to leave wet shoes/boots/etc. and the floor has no carpets. They also don’t really clean the room. They knock at all hours (latest was 4:50) to ask if you need towels but if you need the floor vacuumed or new sheets - good luck. The shower, while pretty, had bad pressure. It was barely a trickle. Getting shampoo out of your hair is a tough task. The handles on the door and fixture were also loose. The walls are paper thin. The woman in the room next to me had her phone on speaker and i heard her whole conversation. I felt bad watching tv because I knew the adjacent room could hear it (we heard theirs). the bar/restaurant isn’t open all week (closes tues/wed) so there really isn’t much else to do if you want to stay on the grounds. The free s’mores are a cute touch tho. fire alarm went off during our stay which triggered my dog really badly. they never explained what happened or apologized which was a little off putting but the fire department eventually cleared the issue. TLDR: place is pretty but doesn’t offer much.

Bring ear plugs .... My wife and I stayed in the Pavilion building for 3 nights. The overhaul of the place looks great and with nice amenities throughout the property. The biggest complaint is with the room itself. - You can hear everything from the adjoining rooms. Any of the people next to us were not being loud, they were just living and you heard everything from the TV being on, to typical conversations, zippering of jackets in the morning and even a fart in the bathroom. Never been at a room like that. I mentioned that to staff and was offered ear plugs or a sound machine. We slept w/ our air pods on listening to music. The resort has a lot of promise but we wouldn't stay there again.
