Manhattan's Midtown West: Edgy, Urban Vibe with Lots of Restaurants

Though it's a stone's throw from top attractions such as Central Park, Broadway, and Radio City Music Hall, Midtown West can feel a little grittier and less developed than some of the surrounding NYC neighborhoods. Stretching roughly from 59th to 29th Street and the Hudson River to 8th Avenue (though some say it continues as far east as Madison Avenue), Midtown West lacks the chain restaurants of Times Square and the large department stores of 5th Avenue. Instead, you can find neighborhood markets, cafes, and walk-up row houses.

Midtown West is also known as Hell's Kitchen, a nod to the numerous restaurants that serve everything from Asian street food to fine French cuisine. The neighborhood's eateries and bars are especially concentrated along 9th and 10th Avenues, and it's easy to walk between them all.

I think it was a cute hotel... in the center of the city were all the action is. Groupon offered a good price. Only negative was the lighting in the bed and bathroom. Also the fact that you can hear your hotel neighbors. But I would def go back there!

Being alone!! Proximity to Times Square was great. Early morning Construction outside the second floor window was not. Room was fine, clean, and worth the discounted Groupon prices.

Quite an experience. I returned from lunch to find my toilet blocked and backed up with effluent. I was told it was a result of the torrential rain experienced in NY that day (14th May 2025). It took repeated requests for it to be cleared and cleaned (about 3 hours waiting and ignored in reception). After asking if my room was ready for the fourth time, reception suggested 'maybe you should go and check for yourself'. I asked to see the manager but waited another hour for a no-show and then gave up, which is what I assume was the intention. I can forgive a few issues with the plumbing, but the conduct of reception/management "inspired" me to write my first review ever. I guess i won't be pre-paying for a hotel again.

Budget hotel at higher price and rude staff I would say the hotel is very budget but you're not necessarily paying budget price! Pros: -Spoke to person at the desk when my safe wouldn't open and he was so friendly and so was the maintenance guy that came to fix it - room has plenty of plugs approx x6 and a usb either side of the bed. 2 plugs in the bathroom. - latch over the door did make the room feel like no one could definitely not get in -air con was powerful (albeit noisy) - good location in the heart of times square (around corner from m&m store to give you an idea) Cons: - no where to hang clothes - you get free access to an offsite gym but only found this out by looking at the booking just before I left. -lady that checked me in wasn't pleasant, wasn't told what time check in was, wasn't told that they did luggage storage nor that a fridge or microwave could be requested. Again only found this out when looking online for my check out time - Beds are SQUEAKY like nothing I've ever experienced. If you're going to do anything but sleeping in the beds lol, don't. - Noise! From other rooms, from the hallway, footsteps from upstairs. The noise was bad it almost felt like they were in the room with you! the room next to me left their room about 5am and the door shutting made me jump and woke me up! was honestly terrifying. - shower had mould and hard water stains that looked like it was just dirty. The water also took about half an hour to train after a 5 min shower. Wouldn't have been able to have 2 people shower after eachother or even wash your hair without it overflowing! -lift CAN be slow when i arrived i waited over 5 mins for it to show up. there are stairs but i couldn't unlock the door with my key so could only use them to come down. - heating doesn't really work, tried to adjust the aircon the heat it felt like it was blowing out air with no temp, so not cold but i ended up switching it off and having to sleep in a hoodie. would be great in summer but not for colder months -The only reason I'm writing this negative review is when I went to collect my luggage. The lady at the desk was having a gossip with a guest perhaps? and I stood behind waiting to speak to her, she asked if I wanted to check in (in a not very pleasant tone). When I told her I'm here to collect my luggage she gestured to the man who was doing that and exlaimed ;HE'S RIGHT THERE!?!?' in a very sarcastic tone. I'm a high functioning autistic, I didn't realise he was the man sorting the luggage and wasn;t initially told where to go to collect anyway. I did see him stood there but wasn't sure if I needed to speak to the lady first or not. This may not have been a big deal for some but the way she gestured and spoke to me as if I was so stupid. She was a blonde middle aged woman. A typical karen. Would like to state that the man that gave me my luggage was so lovely! so we were two men that were working on the desk on 15/5 I was hoping to ask if the hotel could help me get to the airport but I felt so stupid I didn't want to approach this woman as she was the only one free so I left the hotel with no idea how to get to the airport. Would not recommend here unless you are happy to over pay fora very mediocre service

Shabbier than the photos I pulled up the photos from the booking to see if they matched where I was staying because the hotel did not meet my expectations. Very worn - paint chipping and aging rooms. I almost checking out as soon as I arrived and checked into another hotel.
