Laguna Beach, California: Seaside Art Community with Cliffside Mansions and Tide Pools

Laguna Beach is widely known as an affluent seaside community just off the iconic Pacific Coast Highway, thanks in part to the MTV reality show Laguna Beach. The Orange County city has its fair share of elaborate mansions, high-end boutiques, and upscale restaurants, but what sets Laguna Beach apart is its artistic scene. The city’s artistic community is set mainly in the Laguna Village neighborhood, where visitors can browse galleries and watch artisans working in their studios.

In typical Southern California fashion, visitors are drawn to the city’s Main Beach, where they lounge by the ocean and play volleyball along the boardwalk. Toward the beach’s north end lies Bird Rock, a towering rock formation where seabirds often gather. Sea slugs, red urchins, and sea cucumbers can be spotted swimming in the tide pools around the rock when the tide ebbs.

this groupon is only for the back hotel room not an ocean view at all. We had to pay an additional $350 to get an ocean view. rooms are nice but $600? Way too high in my opinion. How ever we did have a great view! There was a wedding downstairs so we could not eat at the restaurant. View is 5 stars and price is 2 stars

Terrible service. Charged us $25 for a noon checkout. Complimentary late checkout is till 11:30. RIDICULOUS!! Then we were disturbed 3 times by hotel staff before noon. Our bathroom was dirty too. Also charged us $38 for parking. We have stayed here numerous times. Not sure if this is because we booked through Groupon this time. But we will not be back to this hotel again. there are plenty of other hotels in Laguna.

Proximity is the best thing about this hotel! It’s older, but clean. Resort fee covers everything you need for a fun day at the beach and beach attendant was so great! The hotel has two pools and jacuzzis. Staff was very friendly and accommodating, we would definitely stay there again! We love where it’s centrally located at our favorite beach, and walking distance to all our favorite restaurants.

I upgraded our room to ocean view-definitely recommend. But, the room was NOTHING like the pics. The carpet is extremely worn and stained. It rained during our stay, and even a day later the balcony was still soaking wet. Still, the ocean view and sound made up for the dingy room. The staff was quite friendly, but housekeeping never came. I had to request more coffee and towels on our 2nd day.
