Laguna Beach, California: Seaside Art Community with Cliffside Mansions and Tide Pools

Laguna Beach is widely known as an affluent seaside community just off the iconic Pacific Coast Highway, thanks in part to the MTV reality show Laguna Beach. The Orange County city has its fair share of elaborate mansions, high-end boutiques, and upscale restaurants, but what sets Laguna Beach apart is its artistic scene. The city’s artistic community is set mainly in the Laguna Village neighborhood, where visitors can browse galleries and watch artisans working in their studios.

In typical Southern California fashion, visitors are drawn to the city’s Main Beach, where they lounge by the ocean and play volleyball along the boardwalk. Toward the beach’s north end lies Bird Rock, a towering rock formation where seabirds often gather. Sea slugs, red urchins, and sea cucumbers can be spotted swimming in the tide pools around the rock when the tide ebbs.

Not impressed Last December we stayed at the Pacific Edge Hotel and had an awesome time. We assumed our stay this year would be the same, but we were VERY disappointed. There was construction noise two of the three days we were there. It was so loud, the walls were literally vibrating--nearly all day. No one told me this might be going on when I booked the room nor when I checked in. When we complained to the front desk staff, their response amounted to "too bad." No offer of a different room, no offer of a discounted room rate. After a lot of hassle, we finally talked to a manager who offered a small refund. Look, staying oceanfront is really great -- listening to the waves, watching the surfers and spotting dolphins, etc. And it ain't cheap. The construction noise really detracted from our enjoyment. And if the staff had more more accommodating, I'd be leaving a different review. Not sure we'll be staying at this hotel again.

When customer service goes a long way Pacific edge Hotel is such an amazing experience. Me and my family have been going for years. Usually I book in advance in the summer but with the weather being warm in December, I decided to give it a a shot and found a cheap price online I called and Christel answered. She assisted me more than I expected, and was so kind. She went above and beyond to find me the best available price.

Amazing! Just nothing short of amazing! I truly enjoyed the stay! Room right on the water! Spa is big and was perfect. Hard to beat the location and a nice price as well. Irene! She was absolutely amazing and very very helpful! Her kindness is truly what made me feel welcomed!
