Laguna Beach, California: Seaside Art Community with Cliffside Mansions and Tide Pools

Laguna Beach is widely known as an affluent seaside community just off the iconic Pacific Coast Highway, thanks in part to the MTV reality show Laguna Beach. The Orange County city has its fair share of elaborate mansions, high-end boutiques, and upscale restaurants, but what sets Laguna Beach apart is its artistic scene. The city’s artistic community is set mainly in the Laguna Village neighborhood, where visitors can browse galleries and watch artisans working in their studios.

In typical Southern California fashion, visitors are drawn to the city’s Main Beach, where they lounge by the ocean and play volleyball along the boardwalk. Toward the beach’s north end lies Bird Rock, a towering rock formation where seabirds often gather. Sea slugs, red urchins, and sea cucumbers can be spotted swimming in the tide pools around the rock when the tide ebbs.

Best kept secret in Laguna Beach Hotel Valet staff Chris, Kacey, Santos, Luis and Jordan are remarkable with my truck, luggage and directions to the best food and entertainment in Laguna Beach!!! Oh and the Sisters that’s have been cleaning at the hotel for decades are so sweet and good at their jobs_. The staffs at the Deck and Driftwood were friendly and professional bartenders and servers.

Poor Customer Service Disappointing Experience at Pacific Beach Hotel – Poor Customer Service We recently made reservations at what we believed was the official website for the Pacific Beach Hotel. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a third-party vendor (Reservation Desk) that misrepresented itself as the hotel directly. We booked and paid for an oceanfront room, but upon arrival, were given a room across the street with no view. While we acknowledge this was ultimately our mistake, we approached the front desk calmly and respectfully to explain the situation. Sadly, the manager on duty, Viq, responded in an unnecessarily rude and condescending manner. His exact words were, “It’s not my fault you don’t know how to use your phone.” This response was both unprofessional and dismissive, especially given we had just traveled over 12 hours to reach our destination. Another guest checking in at the same time experienced the exact same issue, having booked for her granddaughter’s high school graduation. While we were ultimately able to secure a full refund from the third-party site—thanks only to Viq finally approving the refund—we chose not to stay at Pacific Beach Hotel due to the poor customer service. Instead, we stayed at Casa Loma, which was a fantastic experience. The staff were warm and welcoming, our room was truly oceanfront, and they even surprised us with a bottle of champagne and cookies to help turn around our trip after such a frustrating start. I strongly recommend booking elsewhere if customer service and integrity are important to you. There are better options in the area that will treat you with respect and hospitality.

Great location, but disappointed with our stay What we booked on Priceline we were told was not available upon arrival. The walls were thin, and the adjoining room door didn't lock. The guests in the adjoining room partied until 3:30am. The a/c was old and loud. Bottom line, the best thing about this hotel was the location. Otherwise, disappointing.
