San Diego, California: Historical Attractions and Electric Nightlife in Southern California

San Diego’s sunny, comfortably warm weather and 70 miles of coastline have long attracted vacationing out-of-towners, but the city’s inland scene is no slouch, either. The Gaslamp Quarter is arguably the trendiest listing on the National Register of Historic Places. The area forms both the historic center of town and a hub of San Diego nightlife, with nearly 100 Victorian-era buildings occupied by high-end boutiques, jewelers, and gourmet restaurants.

A stroll through iconic Balboa Park takes you past 17 separate museums, as well as the world-famous and much beloved San Diego Zoo. There’s also the vibrant Spanish Village Art Center, a living gallery where local artists produce pottery, handblown glass, and oil paintings for sale.

Farther north, in Old Town—site of the first European settlement in California—shops in Mission-style stucco buildings sell colorful wrestling masks, woven baskets, and maracas. Nearby stands the Whaley House Museum, dubbed one of the Most Terrifying Places in America by the Travel Channel. Ghosts of former residents are said to inhabit the rooms, which are filled with Victorian furniture, eerie dolls, and squeegees for ectoplasm cleanup.

Home away from home on the beach I love this very comfortable , friendly ( my favorite front desk person is Marlana ) hotel with its heated saltwater pool that's right next to the beautiful pacific beach . This hotel caters to longer time. stays with a efficiency kitchenette In each room because it's such a great neighborhood ! You can walk to lots of restaurants, markets, bars, fun shops. They are so friendly and accommodating too - with a full housekeeping staff, that is there every day working away to keep things sanitized and customers pleased . And with a maintenance man that stays late in the night just in case- I've even had them come over at 10 o'clock at night to fix the TV and he's there in five minutes.! The water pressure is strong in the shower that includes High quality shampoo , conditioner and soap in a dispenser, built into the shower. There is AC and heat in each room individually so you can adjust they temperature yourself. Yes they allow doggies too !! and I think that's great because having someone watch our dogs at home is very expensive these days and the hotel hardly charge anything to have a dog with you . It's just 45$ for the whole stay!!

Excellent location, comfortable bed! The location here is AWESOME! Just a short walk to the beach access ramp. We got the room with 2 queen beds and slept soundly. Very comfortable. The bedside lamp had to be plugged in/unplugged to turn it on and off since the twisty knob was missing. We had an outside, at-the-front-door patio with a table and chairs which was nice. Inside, the room was tastefully decorated, but the carpet was fraying at every seam. The room's mini-split remote control was missing, but we did finally figure out how to turn the a/c on and cool the room. The cabinets did not have a single thing in them in the kitchen bar.....no cutlery, no dishes, no paper towels. There was no continental breakfast, only coffee offered in the lobby. One of the two dryers in the laundry room was inoperative. The pool needs draining and repainting since the paint was peeling throughout the pool. The water WAS heated, but the area just looked too sad for us to be comfortable enough to use it. All of the staff we encountered was friendly and smiling. Even with its little problem areas, we would stay here again.

Could be a gem On first glance, the rooms appear fairly fresh and modern. On closer inspection, there are so many issues. We had booked a junior king suite (which can accommodate up to 4 guests) and got unit #10. Instead of the “signature amenities” of workstation desk and clock radio, we got 2 sofas. Definitely missing a desk and chair in the main room. The “full well-equipped kitchen” had 2 fridges (why?) and instead of the announced “bar seating”, there was a metal patio table complete with parasol hole. The bare cupboards revealed only 2 of each: plates, bowls, glasses, knives, forks, spoons - no essential items such as can opener, bottle opener, peeler, chopping board, colander, salad bowl, paper towels; there was no dishwasher - but also no kitchen cloths for drying. The 2 oven rings were a disaster - both on a 45’ angle and took over 40 mins to boil a pan of water. Allow 3 hours per meal. Oven rings were not marked, so it was impossible to work out the high and low heat range. Exhaust was a hole in the ceiling. Maintenance guy was friendly and bought a chopping board and potato peeler on day 1. Young receptionist was friendly- older one just rolled her eyes, huffed and puffed each time we complained. Asked for more kitchen items on day 2 - they provided some extras, which were all dirty. Asked for kitchen cloths and they left us extra bath towels. Wifi was hit and miss. Shower was hot and strong, but door did not seal properly and leaked water. Positives were the free parking and location. Such a pity, as with more care and attention, this could be a gem.
