Palm Springs, California: SoCal Resort Town with Midcentury Charm

Palm Springs is an oasis of outdoor recreation and old Hollywood glamour about 100 miles east of Los Angeles. Once the stomping grounds of Elvis Presley and the Rat Pack, the town still attracts A-list vacationers. Strolls through the Movie Colony take visitors past the former homes of Dean Martin, Bob Hope, and Marilyn Monroe. Furniture and clothing boutiques along Palm Canyon Drive embrace Palm Springs’ trademark aesthetic—what might be called Mad Men West.

The sun shines more than 300 days a year in Palm Springs, which means people can golf or hike in the nearby Agua Caliente Indian Canyons no matter the season. On the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, cars rotate 360 degrees as they carry passengers to Mount San Jacinto’s Mountain Station, located 8,516 feet above sea level. About 40 miles northeast is Joshua Tree National Park, which spans parts of the Colorado and Mojave Deserts. The 12 nature trails give hikers the chance to see desert bighorn sheep and black-tailed jackrabbits.

Overpriced for older renovated motel. Location is great but I would most likely not stay here again.

Great location, nice property. Rooms are adequate. Exterior gates are keyed but don’t always work.

Location is within walking distance to all the shops downtown. I had a beautiful view from my room AFTER I requested to move from a ground level floor that had no privacy (room #113), to the third floor. The front desk was very helpful and accommodating to my request for a room change. I also received excellent customer service at the Spa from receptionist, Tony, and the massage therapist, Janay. I would definitely return to the Spa for future services. As for the actual hotel itself, I would give higher stars if the hotel upgraded their guest rooms; the bathroom sink was cracked and a significant portion of the metal framing outside the A/C unit on my patio was falling apart and sticking out. The coffee mugs provided were chipped and no coasters are available in the guest room or even at the Spa (they used a folded Kleenex for my bottled water...Kinda tacky). The Ceiling fan inside my room was loose and I was concerned it might detach from the wall. I did not have any hot water the last morning I stayed, but housekeeping quickly and effectively resolved this problem. He was also very friendly and helpful with my luggage during check-out. The outdoor bonfire area was nice, but the wicker-like chairs surrounding it were falling apart and poked at my T-shirt several times. I didn’t bother to give feedback on suggested improvements to the front desk on these items in my review, because other reviews have made similar comments; while the hotel has acknowledged and agreed to the need for upgrades, they have yet to be completed for Groupon guests. If I return again, I would definitely book a room with the new upgrades and see if that made a difference.

I liked the room, basic but good privacy. Pool was large. I had treated my mom to a massage in the spa and she very much enjoyed it! Would stay again if in the area!
