Palmyra, New York: Historical Village Near Finger Lakes Region
Nearly 200 years ago, Palmyra became the birthplace of Mormonism and the Latter-Day Saints movement, but today, the village is a stopping point near upstate New York’s Finger Lakes region. The region gets its name from the 11 long, thin lakes that were forged here by glaciers thousands of years ago. The upheaval created breathtaking geography—more than 1,000 waterfalls spill down the sides of the area’s famous rocky gorges.
The topography of the Finger Lakes makes for an ideal grape growing environment; go wine tasting or simply tour some of the more than 100 wineries across the region. For other recreation, Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack has thoroughbred horse racing from mid-April through early December, and the 44,000 square-foot gaming floor is open year-round.
