Hotel at a Glance: Park Central Hotel New York

Years ago, guests such as Mae West, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Jackie Gleason cemented the reputation of the Park Central Hotel New York. Now, the hotel balances its old-world charm with modernity, thanks to a multimillion-dollar renovation in 2013 by the award-winning Jeffrey Beers International design firm. Enjoy a drink at the onsite lounge, where crystal chandeliers light an art deco-inspired dining room with towering ceilings and floating staircases.

  • Get some sleep in your classic or premier room, which features pillow-top mattress, iDock station, and 46-inch LED TV.
  • Relax with a drink at Park Lounge, the signature bar serving tailored cocktails (currently closed).
  • Fit in a workout at the hotel's fitness center. It's equipped with Cybex stationary bikes, a treadmill, and more (currently closed).
  • Within walking distance: Times Square, the Museum of Modern Art, Rockefeller Center, and Central Park's southernmost border
  • Explore Manhattan via numerous transit stops nearby.
  • Design inspiration: Architect Jeffrey Beers called the hotel's new design "a love letter to New York City."

Times Square, Manhattan: Flashy Neon Lights and World-Class Culture

Times Square is at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The famous address—affectionately known as “the Crossroads of the World”—is home to hypnotizing billboards, giant wraparound news tickers, and the neon lights of Broadway. Beyond the glitz and gimmicks, there are a number of cultural offerings in the area, ranging from museums to Michelin-rated restaurants. Buildings of historical and architectural interest include the Paramount Building and One Times Square, the site of the annual New Year's Eve ball drop.

Nearby, the Museum of Modern Art houses a trove of masterpieces including Vincent van Gogh's The Starry Night, Claude Monet's Water Lilies paintings, and Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans. Save time for a stroll through the museum's outdoor sculpture garden, where installations are clustered around sparkling reflecting pools. About a mile north of Times Square, the David H. Koch Theater is home to one of the world’s foremost dance companies—the New York City Ballet, which stages contemporary works as well as classics like Swan Lake and The Nutcracker.

First Class Service and Hospitality at the Park Central Hotel New York My family and I have been celebrating my son’s birthday every year the past 5 years in New York. A few years ago we started staying at the Park Central Hotel New York and wouldn’t stay anywhere else! We travel from San Diego, California and usually travel on a red eye. We came in contact with the Customer Service Manager Betty a few years ago and she helped us during our stay and made my son’s 21st birthday so memorable we all agreed we didn’t want to stay anywhere else. This year was no different! We always come in January and this time we brought another family member (from Seattle) since she heard about our amazing experiences and Betty did not disappoint! We received first class service! The Park Central Team treated us like royalty and the food and ambience was perfect! Thank you to Betty and Sonia for making this another memorable stay! It just gets better every year! We’ll be back again! We feel like this is our second home and you make us feel like we’re part of the family! _

A fair review of a nice hotel First of all the hotel itself is really nice. The smell when you first walk through the doors in delightful and gives such a warm and inviting feel to the hotel. Rooms were adequate for what we needed, a fridge or coffee machine should be standard for a 4* hotel but we didn't miss it too much. There was an ice machine on our floor which we used to chill drinks in a wine cooler. Location is excellent for seeing New York, a short work to times square and central park in the opposite direction means you are in the centre of it all. Noise levels weren't too bad. You get used to the sirens and horns but did wake us a couple of mornings. Not too much of an issue for us as we were up early due to our body clocks being in UK time so waking around 5am. The coffee shop/store inside the hotel, the ladies are lovely but the prices are a joke. Probably the most expensive coffee shop in NYC. Go to Starbucks next door! Now what really let us down and took away a star for our review was the service. The hotel ran out of towels for 2 days, this was the 26th Dec so after paying a premium for the 7 nights we stayed over the holiday period, we didn't expect this to be an issue. It also snowed on this day which meant our children were unable to shower after playing in the snow all day. I spoke with hotel management and they agreed to waiver the city tax, after this being an issue on the 2nd day and some of the 3rd day they agreed compensation. On checkout they printed all the adjusted prices off and gave me a copy but told me I had to deal with booking.com as I booked through them. After some back and fort once back in the UK booking.com confirmed they could not come to any agreement for compensation with the hotel, even though I was able to provide my invoice receipt from the hotel with adjustments. For me this is an issue for the hotel to resolve as wherever the issue sits either with the hotel or booking.com, guest should be treated fairly and with respect. The towel situation was far from ideal but if the hotel dealt with it as we expected, we could have seen past this. I would not discourage people from staying as we enjoyed our stay but was left with a little sour taste in our mouth after towel gate.
