Boston, MA: Cradle of American Liberty

Boston stands as a monumental symbol of the nation’s founding spirit, steeped in history that shaped the United States as we know it. From the echoes of Paul Revere’s midnight ride to the defiance of the Boston Tea Party, this city breathes the legacy of revolution, intellect, and innovation. Walking its cobblestone streets is akin to stepping into the pages of a living textbook—where iconic landmarks like the Old North Church, Faneuil Hall, and the Freedom Trail tell a story of courage and conviction that reverberates through generations. The city’s academic pedigree, anchored by nearby Harvard and MIT, further cements Boston’s status as a beacon of enlightenment and leadership.

Yet Boston is more than its storied past—it is a vibrant, modern metropolis defined by cultural richness and architectural elegance. The historic brownstones of Back Bay blend seamlessly with sleek waterfront developments along the Seaport, while Fenway Park stands proudly as one of America’s most beloved sports shrines. A hub of biotech, education, and artistic excellence, Boston marries tradition with transformation, offering visitors and residents a cityscape where heritage and progress coexist in harmonious rhythm. It is here, in this coastal capital, that the American spirit continues to thrive—resilient, proud, and forever forward-looking.

Beware Beware of the bogus $30 mandatory destination charge. I remember when the charge for checking into the hotel used to be called the room rate, but I suppose it’s easier to make more money by not disclosing the full room rate and then tacking on an additional discretely disclosed charge (if disclosed at all) behind the room rate. Curious as to why they don’t just set the room rate at $10 and then discretely add on a $400 destination charge (if you are going to be shady then own it and go all out). Also, the listing for my room advertised a workstation and there was no workstation in the room except an uncomfortable lounge chair and a tiny end table with about one square foot of surface that sits by the lounge chair. Calling the onsite seating area where you can buy food a “restaurant” is a bit of a stretch.

HVAC disaster The hotel room is fine, though small. I rented it because of the ease of access to locations of interest. Unfortunately, the fan coil unit or distributed heat pump on the ceiling would not cool at all. In fact, the hotel reset the control panel (Ecosmart) once after I complained that it was 80F in the room with a cooling call for 65F. The reset brought it down to 76F. I went to sleep (sort of) and woke up to find that the fan coil was pushing hot air and the room was approaching 90F. The night attendant could not do anything, since they did not know how to reset the Telkonet garbage controls. I checked the airfilter and it was filthy. No matter how many times I turned the thermostat on or off it would start with a fan, the switch to blowing further hot air. I finally resorted to leaving the door fully open with a table propping it. I asked to be moved and they had no rooms to offer. It was a miserable experience and I did not sleep at all.

Josyia is what you’d expect from a Curio and then some. This hotel is beautiful but not the topic of my review. Josyia is without doubt the reason for our 5 star review. We had called ahead to request a pack n play for our daughter who is incapable of sleeping in our bed. They saw our Hilton status and assured us there would be one when we checked in. However, when we checked in, they were all in use in other rooms. Josyia decided to find a way to say yes to us and walked to a partner hotel to secure a pack n play for our baby girl. Within minutes she was asleep and calm all thanks to Josyia’s efforts. This is the Curio Experience.
