We never have any problems when we stay here. Plenty for the kids to do. They love how they can swim outside and not be cold because the pool is heated. It’s great! They have an escape room. Arcade. Ice cream. My kids love it. An indoor pool on the other side with a water fall and hot tub. A spa! The food is good. Something fun to do when you don’t want to sit at home.

Hotel at a Glance: Pheasant Run Resort

The Pheasant Run Resort golf course ranks among the Midwest’s best, with difficult tee shots, narrow fairways, and lightning-quick greens dancing around serene ponds and mature trees. But in the winter, when the course isn’t open, the resort is still a draw for its onsite Zanies Comedy Club, its award-winning dining and nightlife, and a luxurious spa voted No. 1 in the area by the Chicago Tribune.

  • Onsite dining: Sample everything from jambalaya to ice cream at the resort’s six eateries.
  • Best place to people watch: Check out the resort’s indoor replica of Bourbon Street, complete with a Cajun restaurant and bar and a “swamp arcade.” There are even “street” performers here on Friday and Saturday nights.
  • Award winner: The onsite restaurant, Harvest at Pheasant Run Resort, picked up an OpenTable Diner’s Choice award in 2016.
  • Take a dip in two swimming pools—one an indoor/outdoor pool and one in the atrium. And don’t forget the hot tub.
  • Get sweaty: The fitness center has everything you need for a complete workout.

Fox River Valley: Historical Downtown Districts and Outdoor Excitement

About 40 miles west of Chicago, the neighboring towns of Saint Charles and Geneva bustle with vintage charm and a lively nightlife. Both cities’ downtown shopping areas are lined with easily walkable stretches of local boutiques, specialty shops, and eateries. At Graham’s Fine Chocolates & Ice Cream, tucked behind an old-fashioned storefront on Third Street in Geneva, patrons can watch sweet treats being crafted in an open kitchen or dive face-first into confections such as turtle-like pecan Skälies.

Nearby, the extensive Fox River Trail makes it easy to engage in fresh-air pursuits or test out inspirational speeches on crestfallen squirrels. An extensive system of pathways that stretches for 40 miles, the trail draws cyclists, joggers, and fishermen in warm weather and cross-country skiers when the snow falls.

Sad to see it go My wife and I just stayed the night out here for Valentines day. It was a ghost town because the property was just auctioned off and purchased by a new developer for $6 million. I hope they can revitalize this property that has so much history. The place is still pretty cool and has a great indoor/outdoor pool section. With 18 acres, a golf course, convention center, and shops, I would anticipate a great place to "re-open" in the future.

Wow This place was not what I was expecting. Walking into the lobby I noticed how outdated everything is, which is fine, however I felt more comfortable putting my stuff on the dirty carpet because the furniture was thick with dirt. Walking through the hotel to get to the elevator I was cringing hoping my room would be a pleasant change of scenery. I was very wrong. While the bedding seems to be clean, I feel dirtier getting out of the shower than going in. The toilet must have leaked at some point causing the wall to heave out and leave a substance on the floor behind the toilet. The shower had missing caulking and maybe half of the shower head jets work because they’re clogged with calcium build up. I’m hoping my husband will want to change hotels tomorrow because 4 days here will be torture. Good thing I hear this place is closing.

Abandon your Reservation before it's too late! We've stayed here about once a year for the last 4 or 5 years and it has gone dramatically downhill. We waited 55 minutes for our food at the restaurant here. When we left the show, all the restaurants, all the bars, were closed and it wasn't even 11 p.m. The place is closing mid-January, but it might as well be closed now. Very disappointed... cancel your reservation and go somewhere else. The people work really hard but somebody up there in administration is making the decision to keep the place open even thought they are closing this place in less than a month.....giving no support to the bartender's, the cooks, and the waiters and waitresses. The people were wonderful but even the vending machines are empty. It's basically closed.
