Phoenix, Arizona: Bustling Metropolis and Native American Culture Surrounded by Desert

Though the topography of the Phoenix area is all desert, it's by no means desolate. Camelback Mountain is a city park area with scenic trails that wind past boulders and red-sandstone formations; climb to the very top for a view of the entire city. Or hit the themed trails at the Desert Botanical Garden filled with Southwestern flora such as huge sonoran cacti and other moisture-hoarding succulents. Either way, plan hikes in the early morning or twilight hours to catch the most stunning sunlit views and stay cool.

For an in-depth look at the cultures of Arizona’s indigenous population, browse the 12 exhibition galleries and sculpture garden at the Heard Museum. The collection’s nearly 40,000 pieces of art range from 500 Hopi katsina dolls to a full-size Pueblo oven. In nearby Scottsdale, Frank Lloyd Wright’s Taliesin West was the renowned prairie-style architect’s winter home as well as a campus for his architecture school.

Beautiful Resort and Staff I stayed for a night at this hotel for the first time, and it was amazing! I wasn’t in the best mood when I first walked in, but the front desk agent, Braden, turned my mood around completely. He gave me a beautiful room by the cliff side as well as a complimentary breakfast voucher (which he did not have to do at all). I enjoyed my time by the sunset pool pretty much all by myself and upon check out, I was inquiring about the cafe within the lobby. From there, Braden kindly gave me a complimentary coffee voucher which I redeemed to enjoy a delicious coffee made by Deon. The hospitality along with the views is what makes this resort so special. It is worth it to come back just for Braden’s hospitality!

Scorpion in our bedsheets! Tiny gaps under front door needs to get fixed which means pests will get inside aka a bark scorpion, was no fun. We got little to no sleep. Employees blamed it on the mountain and not the gap under the front door LOL, so we won’t be back.

An outstanding Customer Service experience! This was my first time staying at this hotel, and when the Lyft driver pulled up the ramp to the lobby, I knew this wasn't going to be an ordinary stay. This place was absolutely beautiful, situated in an old rock quarry, which had amazing views in all directions. But the one thing that stood out far beyond anything else was the kindness of their Customer Service staff. My room happened to be up on the hill, quite a bit of distance from the conference hall where our company was exhibiting our brand. I was a little fearful that these old knees weren't going to last long having to trek up and back twice a day. But that's when I first met Richard! Richard offered to give me a ride up to my room in one of their many golf carts. Now my body appreciated the ride, no doubt. But Richard was so kind, so genuine, and someone that I could tell actually was sincere in his desire to make sure that I never had to make that walk, either direction. I'm telling you, he actually gave a damn! As I sit here today writing this review, in my 40 years in sales and traveling to conferences for every company, Richard was someone who I wanted to talk to, because he treated me with kindness, respect and understanding. You can't teach that! That was all him. And in my mind, he was the difference maker for my entire conference and stay. I hope I get the opportunity to come back again.
