Cabarete, Dominican Republic: Windsurfing, Kiteboarding, and Diverse Wildlife

Cabarete was just a quiet beach town on the northeast corner of the Dominican Republic until the late 1980s, when Cabarete’s first tourists began to arrive. These travelers were windsurfers, who flocked to the area for its ideal wind and wave conditions. Today, Cabarete routinely hosts professional and amateur windsurfing competitions, and the laid-back village is often hailed as the country’s capital of both kiteboarding and windsurfing. You can show off your chops or sign up for a lesson at Kite Beach.

If you prefer traditional surfing, there’s El Encuentro Beach. An offshore reef near the entrance to the bay is a popular site for scuba-diving and snorkeling, too. For land adventures, visit the El Choco National Park for hiking, biking, or exploring underground caves. The park is also home to a rich ecosystem of animal and plant life, including one of the smallest hummingbirds in the world.

Noisy pool areas and very lazy and unfriendly staff. Stayed here with friends who are chairman circle owners in the lifestyles scheme. The apartment was really nice, the kitchen appliances are very poor, vans too small for the size of apartment. The lifestyles staff where all unfriendly and go out of their way to make your experience as bad as they can. The food and drinks in the on site bars and restaurants is 3x what you pay in the bars up the strip. The music around the pool is way too loud (this is the music around the pool not from the beach bars). There is no beach on the sea front as these are at the narrowest part of cabarete beach, where the sea comes right up to the side of the rocks. We asked several times everyday for the music up be lowered to no affect. Will not go back to this resort and would not recommend

Lovely hotel but pressure to buy a timeshare We were traveling with RCI. Look out for staff trying to sell you a timeshare. We were told we could have a nice day at a sister hotel. We first declined but the staff (Anna) was persistente. She assured us it wasn´t about buing anything. When we got to the other hotel they were pressuring us for hours to buy and showing us different apartment. The hotel is very nice. 2 hotel complexes. One is on the bech and the other on the other side of the street. We loved the rooms and the pools. The beach was also very good. Plenty of resturants at the beach.

Loud music heard for miles!!! Loud music polluting entire Cabarete beach. It is not necessary to destroy peace of the place by blasting music through speakers!
