Hollywood, Florida: Quiet Coastal Town with Beachfront Boardwalk

Hollywood is just south of Fort Lauderdale and about a half-hour drive north of Miami, but it’s quite a bit more relaxed than both. The town’s beach boardwalk—named one of the country’s best by Travel + Leisure—stretches along the Atlantic Ocean for 2.5 miles, attracting joggers, bicyclists, and shoppers. To get to the boardwalk from downtown, hop aboard the old-timey trolley that makes runs to the beach. Other Hollywood attractions include the Anne Kolb Nature Center, a 1,500-acre wetland where you can kayak through tidal channels or take walking trails through red-mangrove forests.

The tempo picks up in neighboring Fort Lauderdale, a city famous for its beaches and boats. During the day, water taxis cruise the Intracoastal Waterway, offering up-close views of waterfront mansions and anchored yachts. At night, hit up the upscale bars and restaurants on Las Olas Boulevard.

family vacation We booked this hotel at Priceline under Quality Inn & Suites Airport. The hotel was recently renamed Hotolos. We stayed 1 night after arrival to Ft. Lauderdale and 1 night before departure 9 days latter. This hotel is in very bad shape and it needs total remodeling. Most of the rooms are smoking and dirty. We had to change rooms, but it get just little better. Guests constantly scream, smoke and fight outside. There was 8 Police cars and Ambulance in the parking lot yesterday morning. Do not stay there, it is worst than you can imagine.

Slums on Stirling Booked this just before Choice Hotels dumped this hotel and was renamed Hostolos. Now I know why it was dumped. We had booked it for 5 nights and only stayed 1. The place is a complete dump, a lot of riff raff and most of them are actually living there full time. Lots of yelling and screaming by the riff raff throughout the day and night. I am glad it was just my wife and I and not our daughter. We would not have let her walk anywhere without one of us walking with her. Do not be fooled by the room photos. They are of another hotel and the rooms are NOT that luxurious. Our AC was also not working well either, the outer door to the room looked flimsy and definitely does not make you feel secure. We booked our next for nights at the Hampton next door and so glad we did.

Stay Away!! For the price I paid which was $91 for a night, it was not with it at all. I was very disappointed that I did not book with Best Western like I normally do. First off, I paid for a non smoking room. I entered the room and it just reeked of cigarette smoke. I immediately requested a room change. The next room thankfully did not smell like smoke. Soon entering the room, I noticed the bed sheets were stained and smelled dirty. I noticed a hand towel hanging on a hanger in the closet (don’t know why it would be there). It was wet and smelled like urine. I was just disgusted and threw it in the trash. I went to shower my son that night and when I went to dry him, I noticed the towel I grabbed had a black shoe print on it. DISGUSTING! I woke up the next morning to find bed bug bites on the side of my back. Obviously this hotel does not pride themselves in cleanliness. The only good thing was the internet!! Please, save yourself your money and book elsewhere.
