Pigeon Forge, Tennessee: Family-Friendly Attractions and Outdoor Activities in the Great Smoky Mountains

Though it’s secluded in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, Pigeon Forge is home to some unique destinations, including Dollywood, a Titanic museum that looks just like the famed ocean liner from the outside, and an interactive children’s museum housed in an upside-down three-story building. But the top draw is, of course, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, located roughly 10 miles south of Pigeon Forge. You can hike along more than 800 miles of trails that lead past waterfalls and pioneer-era log cabins. One of the best places to catch a glowing sunset is Clingmans Dome, the park’s highest point of elevation at 6,600 feet.

In Pigeon Forge’s historical town center, a cluster of old-fashioned specialty shops and restaurants forms the Old Mill Square along the Little Pigeon River. Inside the mill, a pair of 4,600-pound granite stones has been grinding grain since the early 1800s. Voted the #1 Aquarium in the United States, the Ripley’s Aquarium is home to over 10,000 species of sea creatures. Boasting an underwater viewing tunnel longer than a football field with over dozens of 10 feet sharks, and sting rays; this 1.4-million-gallon sea water aquarium has over 32 different aquariums inside, and the best voted Penguin Exhibit in North America

Ideal Convenient, clean, and most importantly a great place for families to come together. We had our annual Friendsgiving vacation here and have no regrets or complaints.

A lot of places in the area- don't stay here. We travel all the time- I never complain. But this place- for the price- I’ve gone to complain twice and I’ve only been here 9 hours. It depends on what you are interested in. If you like clean and being able to sleep past 7 this is NOT the hotel for you. The suite we are in hasn’t been cleaned very well. There was a fingernail in my bathroom counter, which seriously grossed me out. There aren’t covers on the pullouts so the kids get to sleep directly on urine stains- especially since you have to beg for bedding. The King bed housed all of us for the night thank goodness. The kids wouldn’t even unpack their stuffies because the room is so gross. Defeats the purpose of paying for a suite. The music turns on at 7. You best be ready to get up because we could hear it plain as day. “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for” is probably every workers theme song so maybe that’s why it’s so loud. The rebuttal is “that’s just the way it is, something’s will never change” and “Im always watching you” are just to keep them in line so it’s loud so they hear it even in the rooms. But are they? Because this place is lacking. The front desk people are so dang nice though. I feel terrible for them. I know last night at 11:00 I was one of 3 people asking them for bedding or towels or whatever. They were so busy security had to come help out. Super nice people who deserve a raise they’ll never see. They thanked me for being nice to them, so that tells me this place is a sh** show everyday. The bed I only hope had clean sheets was comfortable. We ALL slept in one bed assuming it was clean- very well.

Family November Trip We enjoyed our stay at The Ramsey! It was clean, staff was friendly, and helpful. The only suggestion I have is there needs to be a trashcan in the bathroom along with the one in the room. Our beds were so awesome! I would love to have taken that mattress home with me! The lobby when you walked in was so inviting with the Christmas decorations and the fireplace going. There were a lot of football players at the hotel when we were there but we never heard them while we were in our rooms. It was quiet when it was time for bed. I enjoyed the location because it is in the middle of the activity in Pigeon Forge. With the full breakfast buffet thee value of the room was great! We will be back!!
