The grounds were pretty, but the room was not. It was a tiny shower, an uncomfortable bed, and all of the other activities were monstrously expensive. Expect to spend a grand and a half per person if you want to have any fun.

This family-run luxury ranch has its own massive corral of ponies, onsite golf, and lots of other activities to keep guests busy. Lounge with coffee on your room’s private sun patio before heading out for the day, or drive into historic downtown Wickenburg.

  • Tee off at an 18-hole golf course rated in the Top 100 Desert Courses, and putt past two lakes at 2,100 feet of elevation
  • Enjoy a full-course dinner in the ranch’s dining room, where evening meals feature dishes such as tiger prawns, smoked salmon, salads, soups, and desserts made daily.
  • Have a hot stone massage or a pampering facial at the onsite spa.

Wickenburg, Arizona: Old Mining Town with Western Appeal

A small town about a 75-mile drive northwest of Phoenix, Wickenburg was a wealthy gold and silver mining town in the 1800s. It attracted prospectors and outlaws like a magnet. These days, it’s a pleasantly laid-back community with Old West-style main streets, a major attraction for daytrippers from Phoenix. You can’t walk three steps in Wickenburg without practically tripping over a historically significant building, house, or street—there’s even a historic tree.

Shop for antiques and Western apparel, stop in at saloons for a drink, and make sure to visit the Jail Tree, a 200-year-old mesquite tree that served as the town jail from 1863 to 1890 (outlaws were chained to the tree). You can find out more about the history of Wickenburg at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, which houses an outstanding gem and mineral collection, Western and Native American art, and an exhibit devoted to bolo ties, which are said to have been invented right in town.

A great getaway with lovely surroundings Great location, lots of fun things to do including a really nice pool area, pickle ball as well as tennis. Skeet shooting and a nice small spa. Food and service were excellent. Especially enjoyed the trail ride and the fire pit with friends after dinner. The rooms were well maintained and definitely had the western touch with the decor. Highly recommend a visit either for families or couples.

Such a fun place We really loved it! We hosted a small company retreat and it was the perfect place for us. The food was good. The atmosphere was casual and open. The rooms were nice and clean. It is cuter than it looks in the photos. I would love to go back for a family vacation/reunion!

Times, they are a changin.... I have returned to the ranch off and on for 24 years so have seen many of the changes that have been made. It continues to be a very lovely and happy place for me to spend time. I do believe a few of the niceties of the earlier years may have been lost as growth has increased. It saddened me that , upon checking in, the front desk clerk had no knowledge that I was a returing guest...its the small things that matter. I stayed in a Sunset room but was dismayed that I had not been given a heads up ( or maybe an apology) that the view as I had always known it and what was expected, was replaced with a construction site. Not only is the stunning view of the desert interuped, any peaceful and private siting on the patio was non existant. I understand the desire to grow and improve but to not even acknowledge the compromise I was epected to accept with absolutly no conversation, significantly reduced my positive time at the ranch. Please do not ignore the small stuff!
