Harrisburg, Pennsylvania: Historic State Capital near Chocolate Empire

The midsize city of Harrisburg has played a part in key moments in US history: it was the site of several Civil War battles, as well as a rail and transportation hub during the Industrial Revolution. The National Civil War Museum chronicles the war from both the Southern and Northern perspectives, housing more than 12,000 artifacts including Robert E. Lee's pocket Bible and Ulysses S. Grant's sword belt. The Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex—which Teddy Roosevelt once praised as "the handsomest" he'd ever seen—is also worth a stop. You can take a guided tours around the Beaux Arts building, which was constructed in 1902.

Nearby Hershey bills itself as "The Sweetest Place on Earth," and it's hard to dispute that claim—the whole town smells like chocolate. Rags-to-riches entrepreneur Milton Hershey founded Hershey in 1903 as a company town for his factory workers. These days, it's at the center of a confection empire where you’ll find candy-themed amusement parks and museums. At Hersheypark®, you can ride 13 roller coasters and float in inner tubes down a lazy river. Next door, the Hershey’s Chocolate World trolley tour takes passengers to Milton Hershey's boyhood home and the mansion he built across from his factory.

great experience never had a problem. Randy is one of the nicest person I’ve met . Randy is the most polite manager for a hotel , I have been going there for almost 35 years when it was holiday inn, the staff are polite. The rooms are clean. The pool is nice. The grounds for kids are perfect. I have six children and nine grandchildren and we’ve been going every year since the children are born also so it’s a family vacation once a year, my daughters go there when they have softball tournaments in Hershey. I got this hotel five star rating.

Perfect for the large bunch of us Soccer tournaments everywhere and not a room to be found! Then comes Randy to the rescue! A room to fit us all. Clean, quiet, and exactly what we needed after a crazy fun filled day in Hershey Park. Hunting for a nice big clean room is almost impossible with these many soccer teams and tournaments, Randy almost always comes to the rescue and you are treated like family at the same time. The breakfast buffet was delicious too so make sure you are hungry in the morning. Our four kids have learned the hotel layout and go to the game room or pool and many other amenities as my wife and I pack up and get ready to head home. By the way, it is reasonably placed near Hershey Park too. So there you have it. Say hi to all the staff and you’ll be family too!

The Red Lion Hotel should be shut down- Stay Away! The Red Lion should be shut down. I booked the Red Lion for the Summer Genesis Lacrosse Tournament. Upon walking into our first room, there was a musky damp smell where the toilet was leaking. We also saw moldy black specks on the ceiling, dresser that had a broken drawer with wood pieces sticking out and a dead bug on the lampshade. We reached out the the front desk and they gave us another room. Upon entry of the 2nd room, the smell was also musky and damp. My child pulled the blanket back to get ready for bed and found bugs crawling on the bed. I was told that i could be compensated for my next stay at The Red Lion and that the room with the bugs crawling in the bed should have been closed off. Nobody in their right mind would return to The Red Lion Hotel. Absolutely unacceptable and will be reaching out to the BBB.
