Laredo, Texas: Border Town with Eventful History

Laredo sits right along the northern banks of the Rio Grande, just this side of the US-Mexico border. Founded in 1755, the city holds the distinction of having been controlled by seven separate countries over the course of its history—those that flew the famous Six Flags over Texas (Spain, France, Mexico, the Republic of Texas, the Confederate States of America, and the United States), as well as a seventh, the Republic of the Rio Grande. You can learn more about that unique moment in Laredo’s history at the Republic of the Rio Grande Museum in the downtown San Agustin Historical District. To take advantage of the area’s natural surroundings and year-round warm temperatures, head to Lake Casa Blanca for fishing, hiking, and picnicking.

It was nice Pros: nice reception lady, room was clean and comfortable, lots of shopping and dining nearby. They allow early morning check in. Cons: Noisy, walls seen rather thin,tv line up is very limited, luckily we have our own. But all in all,it wasn't too bad.

Nice Hotel; Friendly Staff We stayed two nights during Christmas and were very pleased with our room. Although the proerty does show signs of aging, it is well maintained and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff we interacted with were exceptionally friendly and hospitable. We will definitely stay again on our next trip to Laredo.

Pleasantly Surprised It's been many years since I have stayed at a Red Roof Inn, but on moving day we found ourselves in a disabled vehicle next door to the hotel. We stumbled in, exhausted, to a warm friendly greeting, hot coffee and a display of pumpkins that were carved by the employees as a contest. Manager Brandon is undoubtedly a family man, because the road weary, hungry, cranky children in our group did not fluster him. He was unflappable and even had a suggestion about local festivities for the kids. I personally was ready to retreat to the fresh, clean room, and welcomed the great night's sleep. ( after another cup of coffee...and I'm a pretty harsh judge of hotel coffee)

A Great Stay It’s a great place to stay. The clerks were super nice and friendly. The bed and pillows were super comfortable and I didn’t have to go far for food. There is also a bar a block or so away for drinks. Over all it was a great stay.
