Toledo, Ohio: Family-Friendly Fun on the Maumee River

Toledo's skyline—a cluster of glass-lined skyscrapers and industrial-age factories—is reflected on the Maumee River. It's a visible reminder of the city's past as a factory town and its development as a center for arts and culture. In the early 1900s, Toledo was nicknamed The Glass City for the many glass-production companies that were anchored there. Today, the Toledo Museum of Art honors that past with a glassmaking studio that dates back to the 1960s and an eco-friendly glass pavilion that houses thousands of ancient and modern examples of glasswork. The museum's extensive art collection also includes paintings by van Gogh, Picasso, and Rembrandt.

If you're traveling with kids in tow, make time to stop at Imagination Station to see hands-on exhibits and shows that explore engineering and science. Kids can ride a bicycle across a high wire and stumble across tilted furniture in the Distorted Gravity room. The award-winning Toledo Zoo is another pleasant kid-friendly distraction; USA Today ranked it among the nation's best zoos in 2014. Don't miss the aquarium's 90,000 gallon tank filled with colorful live coral and tropical marine life.

Friendly staff, older hotel We recently stayed at this hotel for a wedding. I’ll start with the good, as I don’t want the good to be lost with the bad. The staff inside the hotel was wonderful! They were friendly and accommodating. Anything we needed or asked for was handled. I’ll start with valet parking 32.00 a night. We chose to park across the street for a cheaper rate 8.00 as we were there 3 nights and did not need our car. We had to pull our car forward in the drive and were unable to unload our bags closer to the door, because we did not valet. After pushing the cart, back toward the doors, no help from valets? The electronic doors were not working. Not one of the valet drivers attempted to help me. Ingrid who worked the front desk, ran over to open and hold the door for me. Thank You! FYI, we were then charged for valet at check out. ( Yes, they issued a refund). Our safe was broken when we arrived, but they did send someone to fix it. We had to ask for more towels, we only had 2 in our room. Bathroom floors were dirty and dusty, water pressure is poor. I realize this is an older hotel, but feel that the room was not nearly as clean as it should be. The hotel needs some updating. I will again say that the staff was welcoming and accommodating, minus the valets.

Hotel stay AC wasn't working great and the hotel was a little dirty. Not bad but I'd say stay was average. Vallet service was good, Che went out of his way to bring my bags after a knee issue. Maher was also great, appreciate the help everyone provided and wanted to shout them out

Poor A/C Air conditioning in this hotel does not work well. Checked in on a 90 degree day and the air conditioner was turned off in my room. It was almost 80 degrees in the room. Turned the air down to 68 and went to dinner….came back 5 hours later and still 74.

Average Check in was easy, room was overall clean, beds were comfortable, and noise was minimal. Valet parking is available on site ($32), but I went with $8 overnight parking on N. St. Clair Street. Our room lacked any type of guide or link to hotel resources and menus. The bathroom was a bit disappointing, with a dated, slow-draining tub/shower and vanity counter top with multiple large cracks. The coat hooks in the entryway were pulling the anchors out of the walls and I did not trust them to hold any weight. Breakfast in the morning was convenient and tasty. I’d consider returning, but only at more competitive rates.
