Harrisburg, Pennsylvania: Historic State Capital near Chocolate Empire

The midsize city of Harrisburg has played a part in key moments in US history: it was the site of several Civil War battles, as well as a rail and transportation hub during the Industrial Revolution. The National Civil War Museum chronicles the war from both the Southern and Northern perspectives, housing more than 12,000 artifacts including Robert E. Lee's pocket Bible and Ulysses S. Grant's sword belt. The Pennsylvania State Capitol Complex—which Teddy Roosevelt once praised as "the handsomest" he'd ever seen—is also worth a stop. You can take a guided tours around the Beaux Arts building, which was constructed in 1902.

Nearby Hershey bills itself as "The Sweetest Place on Earth," and it's hard to dispute that claim—the whole town smells like chocolate. Rags-to-riches entrepreneur Milton Hershey founded Hershey in 1903 as a company town for his factory workers. These days, it's at the center of a confection empire where you’ll find candy-themed amusement parks and museums. At Hersheypark®, you can ride 13 roller coasters and float in inner tubes down a lazy river. Next door, the Hershey’s Chocolate World trolley tour takes passengers to Milton Hershey's boyhood home and the mansion he built across from his factory.

I just want to start off to say that Mark at the residence Inn was amazing, helpful, and I wouldn’t of been able to stay at the hotel without him. With that said, don’t ever purchase a Groupon for a hotel stay, I purchased this Groupon, three weeks in advance, the hotel never had my reservation and I’ve emailed Groupon and still have not received a response!!! Never again will I use Groupon!!!

Cassie and the staff and this place is great From the beginning of our check in, Cassie did a great job. She is such a pleasure to deal with. We loved staying here. We got to penthouse suite for our daughter and son-in-law and grandkids and then me and Nana had studio. We loved the rooms and we loved the pools, but most importantly All the service was great from everyone working but especially Cassie thank you Cassie for a great experience. Looking forward to coming back someday.

Not As Expected My husband and I stayed one night here and that was all we would have been able to take. This was the dumpiest Residence Inn we've ever stayed at. The bathroom floor was sticky...I had to put towels down to cover it. The toilet handle was sticky...I had to clean it along with the toilet seat that looked like it had been wiped with a dirty rag. There was little light in the main bathroom (we had a 2 bedroom room) and also very little in the kitchen. The 2nd bathroom's light was not working at all! We didn't even shower here because of these reasons and we were very glad to checkout. Breakfast was marginal. We've had many breakfasts of this nature in various places and this one was hard pressed to be "ok"/

Filthy rooms. Poor customer service I planned a family trip to Hershey Park. 6 rooms booked. Upon arrival my son’s family with 3 young children entered their room to find strong marijuana Oder and dirty laundry on the floor. Another room had a bag of rotting garbage in closet with brown liquid of who knows what. She called at to have it removed she was told by front desk that there was no one available to do that. So she carried it outside and left on the lawn. Room 3 had moldy grout in the shower. Complained to Marriott corporate and they were responsive. Sent 3 emails letting me know that the manager of this hotel was notified and would be contacting me. Well the manager never did. I was allowed to leave early without penalty due to the conditions but I did have to scramble to find another hotel and that did cut into time we could have spent at Hershey Park. I ended up at a Hilton and we were very happy.
