Hotel at a Glance: Richmond Hotel

In 1941, just before America entered World War II, entrepreneur and world traveler Peres Seltzer’s main business was importing zippers from Japan. When he realized trade with Japan would likely cease in the coming months, he built a hotel in Miami Beach instead, one that mimicked the grand style of ocean liners. The Richmond Hotel has been located directly on the beach ever since. Its clean art-deco lines, beach location, and iconic neon sign make it a popular upscale destination. It’s still owned by the same family, too.

  • Oceanfront location: The hotel is on the beach, so you can stroll to the shoreline along the Love Bridge.
  • Stylish rooms are decorated with art-deco touches such as authentic period lamps and chic bathroom tiles.
  • Escape the heat and dive into the outdoor pool, which is surrounded by palm trees and white cabana tents.

Miami Beach, Florida: White-Sand Beaches, Glamorous Nightlife, and Cuban Cuisine

Miami Beach is a small barrier island situated between the Atlantic Ocean and Biscayne Bay, a shallow lagoon that separates the beaches from downtown Miami. People from all over the world come here to enjoy the white-sand beaches, shop the high-end boutiques, and party at the legendary see-and-be-seen nightclubs the city is known for. The red-hot center of this sexy, international social scene is South Beach, a 20-block stretch filled with upscale lounges, rooftop bars, and ultrahip hangouts behind velvet ropes. Lummus Park beach is packed by mid-morning, and the clubs on Ocean Drive and Washington Avenue—many of which stay open until 5 a.m.—vie for the limelight with VIP service, celebrity DJs, and dressed-to-the-nines crowds.

Beyond the fast-paced luxury of South Beach lies Miami Beach’s softer side. A leisurely stroll through the Art Deco District reveals hundreds of beautiful, candy-colored buildings, including Versace Mansion—a 1930 manor modeled after a palace in the Dominican Republic that belonged to Christopher Columbus’s family. The centerpiece of the city’s arts scene, the Bass Museum of Art displays works from Peter Paul Rubens and Sandro Botticelli, and modern-design objects and propaganda arts fill three stories at the Wolfsonian-FIU museum. There’s also a handful of vibrant ethnic enclaves to explore here, and Little Havana is among the most notable. The neighborhood is lined with family-owned restaurants and Caribbean-style marketplaces, making it a great place to discover some of the country’s most delicious Cuban food, from sugary guarapo juice to pastelitos, or Cuban pastries.

The money you'll save on the room will be wasted on an auto claim by their valet service! Watch out for their valet service! Here is what they did to us at a hotel close by: While we were staying at the Casablanca in Miami Beach in October 2020, the valet staff caused a large scratch on our rental car while it was under their supervision in the valet lot. We filled out a claim, but so far they have been unresponsive to the frequent requests for payment on the claim by Hertz. I find this to be very negligent and unprofessional since the damages are 100% their fault. We were satisfied with the amenities at the Casablanca, and the unit was of great value. But when we factor in a $600 claim that we may have to pay due to the valet's negligence, the value disappears instantly. We will not be returning to the Casablanca or any facility that uses Elite Parking Valet services, unless they make this right.

Just about the worst hotel pound for pound It will look and feel like a crack motel. The stick down carpet in the room was peeling up, rusted exposed toilet plumbing and BUGS. Worse then the bugs, the AC did not work. Be ready for a aditional 35% resort fee. The resort fee will get you slow wifi and two off brand water bottles. Then you have to pay another $15 a day if you want to have a stagnant looking breakfast. It's a TRAP

Good but going I’ve stayed in this hotel the past 8 Christmas’s. It’s still the fabulous hotel it always has been. However, the hotel next door has bought it. You must specify which property you are getting it you get stuck in one or the other. We didn’t have a working ice machine for 5 days during Christmas. The staff is stretched super thin. The rooms are very clean and the hotel is Art Deco. If you want a good view or smoke venture up to the 5th floor and go to the roof patio. The end rooms are the obvious best rooms. This all being said I was told it’s going to be torn down in March. Stay at this gem if you can just be wary of where they put you
