Beyond the Las Vegas Strip: Old Vegas and Red Rock Canyon

It can feel like the entire city of Las Vegas revolves around the Strip if you never venture beyond that neon-lit corridor. But there’s plenty to see and do once you step off Las Vegas Boulevard. You can find a taste of Old Vegas on Fremont Street, where vintage signs and showgirls crowned with headdresses recall the days of Sinatra and Martin. Beginning at dusk, a canopy of more than 12 million LED lights erupts in a psychedelic light-and-music show every hour. For an aerial view, zoom down the center of Fremont Street on a zipline.

Nature puts on its own show at Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, a landscape of fiery-red sandstone formations and limestone cliffs just 17 miles outside the city. Motor down the 13-mile scenic drive or ditch the car and strike out on any of more than 20 hiking trails that course through the region’s otherworldly topography.

Great value & location + there's an empty mini fridge For the price, location, access to the monorail and the quality of rooms, Sahara is a great choice to stay at in Las Vegas. I've stayed here when it was old Sahara, SLS and new Sahara. The refurbishment of the rooms between being SLS and now new Sahara is definitely a step up. The rooms are comfortable, pretty and have tons of light and mirrors, making getting ready a breeze. There is an empty mini fridge to store your own snacks and drinks! The beds feel nice, the rooms are quiet and the showers are hot. The only drawback is the light that peeps in from the curtains in the morning. The pool area has a cute Moroccan theme and the prices aren't exorbitant like some of the other nearby properties. There is plenty of parking between multiple garages and they're not too far from the actual property. While I wish that there were actual gluten-free options on property for people like me with celiac disease, there is an eclectic mix of Asian, Mexican, Italian, a cafe and fine dining, so you're sure to find something your party wants to eat. “Summertime At Sahara” Being a local you definitely get to play at several resorts and perhaps stay. This was the case with my most recent staycation at the Sahara not only did they have great perks for locals my experience was outstanding! I love the property and vibe there and my experience was hands down the best! The staff from easy peasy check in to a complimentary upgrade. I’d like to recognize these team members. Jane & Twinkle at check-in, Marcos & Julio at housekeeping. I highly recommend whether a local or vacay to not miss out with a stay at Sahara!
