Midtown Manhattan: Iconic Sights and Shops Along Fifth Avenue

Midtown East refers to a 17-block stretch of central Manhattan between Fifth Avenue and the East River. The area is known for some of New York’s most famous landmarks, including Rockefeller Center—home to the iconic outdoor ice-skating rink, the Today show, and Saturday Night Live—and Grand Central Terminal, the world’s sixth-most-visited tourist attraction. Though in recent years Grand Central has filled with upscale restaurants and shops, it still serves as a major transportation hub with subway lines, Metro trains, and ziplines heading all over the city.

A stroll down Fifth Avenue is a world-renowned shopping experience: the street is filled with luxury boutiques and flagship department stores, including the original Saks Fifth Avenue and Bergdorf Goodman. For a little tranquility in the middle of the city, follow Fifth up to the southeast corner of Central Park. Just a few feet off the street is the Pond, which is spanned by a stone bridge. A little farther north, you’ll find the heart of Central Park Zoo.

Another New York landmark, Times Square, is located at the intersection of Broadway and Seventh Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The famous address—affectionately known as “the Crossroads of the World”—is home to hypnotizing billboards, giant wraparound news tickers, and the neon lights of Broadway. Beyond the glitz and gimmicks, there are a number of world-class cultural offerings in the area, ranging from museums to Michelin-rated restaurants. Buildings of historical and architectural interest include the Paramount Building and One Times Square, site of the annual New Year’s Eve ball drop.

Great find, would stay here again in a heartbeat. This lovely little hotel in Midtown Manhattan is the perfect place to stay, location is just a few blocks (easy walking distance) from Grand Central Station, Rockerfella Center, Times Sq, Central Park and many more. There are subway stations nearby and bus stops. The hotel is immaculately clean and quiet & the staff are friendly and couldn’t be more helpful. Our room, an Elite King Suite was spacious & perfect for us (couple) and daughters, 21 & 16 who shared the large pull out sofa. The kitchenette was a useful bonus. I booked directly with hotel and got a better price than if I’d booked through an agency, also local taxes were included in that price.

Enjoyable stay Well located hotel subway routes nearby. All staff were helpful, efficient and friendly. Spotlessly clean. Our room was very quiet. Nothing to fault, would happily stay there again. Amenities in our room were very good with a fridge and microwave with some crockery.

Charming old style hotel! I’m very happy I chose this hotel for my October stay with my daughter. We stayed in a double room with a queen bed, and to my surprise, the staff made up the sofa as a bed, giving us both our own beds. The room is divided into two separate areas, which was very convenient: one area with a sofa (converted into a large bed), a table with two chairs, a wardrobe, and a small kitchenette; and another area with the queen bed and access to the bathroom. It felt like having two rooms since the spaces were separated by a door. The AC worked well in both areas. The bathroom was stocked with a hairdryer, a magnifying makeup mirror (which we loved), shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion. The bathtub was great too. The staff was very kind, and we booked their airport transfer, which was comfortable and comparably priced to Uber. The hotel is just a 10-minute walk to Rockefeller Center and 20 minutes to Times Square. Manhattan can be a bit noisy at night due to roadwork, but it didn’t bother us too much. Overall, I’m very happy with my stay and would definitely recommend this hotel!
