Cabo San Lucas, Mexico: Watersports, White-Sand Beaches, and Festive Parties

Located at the southern tip of the Baja California peninsula in Mexico and 10 degrees below the Tropic of Cancer, Cabo San Lucas enjoys pleasant year-round temperatures. Just south of town, the white-sand Lover’s Beach (or Playa del Amor) stretches alongside the Sea of Cortez and is frequented by sea lions, and, depending on the season, humpback whales. It’s a popular spot for snorkeling, scuba diving, and swimming. Tour boats and water taxis regularly zip from Cabo to Lover’s Beach and the neighboring El Arco, an arch-shaped granite rock formation that has become Cabo’s unofficial symbol.

Surrounding the marina waterfront, downtown Cabo buzzes 24 hours a day with visitors sampling local tequilas and fresh, grilled seafood. Slip into one of the trendy restaurants near the marina to try chicharrones—fried pork rinds—and chiles en nogada—poblano chilis topped in a walnut cream sauce. The tourist district is also filled with nightclubs and cantinas catering to every kind of visitor, whether they’re looking for conga lines or jazz tunes.

This resort ended up putting "upgrading" our room. However, the way it is advertised on Groupon is not accurate with the resort. They said the Groupon room was their "basic" room when Groupon advertised the room we were actually upgraded to. So in this case, it is actually feedback for Groupon as it was false advertising for what the actual rooms were. I use Groupon all the time so I was disappointed and will consider using Groupon moving forward. The resort was beautiful however, be prepared to be pitched every single day for timeshare. There are cabanas a one of the pools and even an entire restaurant that you cannot use unless you are of the "elite" membership, which is the timeshare. We ended up sitting through the timeshare demonstration and even though we didn't buy, we saved about $500 on excursions which was okay. If you do sit through the timeshare, it's NOT 90 minutes, it actually ends up being 3 hours total. They told us we would get a black wristband even if we didn't purchase the timeshare but this was not true. Everything else was great. Awesome location to all the shops and restaurants as well. Joel in the main pool is AWESOME! He took great care of us and we even had his take a photo with us before we left. He was on point with drinks and even remembered what we were drinking the next day and had drinks ready when we arrived at the pool. Joel is top notch!

High pressure sales pitch by time-share rude sales team. They got pissy when I refused to purchase a time share, made comments that I wasted their time. Will never stay at a Sandos Resort again.

I signed up with Groupon, had a confirmation number. We traveled thousands of miles to find out once at the resort after being checked in, that the hotel over booked, and myself and several other guest were shipped off to a competitor hotel, which was a terrible experience. We didn't receive what we paid for. Not to mention loss of full day two days of travel because of the all the mix up.
