Galveston, Texas: Exotic Animals, Water Parks, and Victorian Mansions on the Gulf of Mexico

Galveston occupies a barrier island roughly a half-hour drive from Houston. Its gulf beaches are bathed in sunlight more than 200 days of the year. Though Galveston’s climate is almost tropical, penguins waddle into chilly waters at the city’s most famous attraction, Moody Gardens. Nearby, saki monkeys roam a rainforest habitat, stingrays glide through a 1.5-million-gallon aquarium, and snow falls on moviegoers’ noses in a 4D theater. Another popular attraction is Schlitterbahn Waterpark, where you can zoom down water slides and sip drinks at a swim-up bar.

Step back in time with a visit to downtown Galveston’s Strand Historic District. Here, classic cars and horse-drawn carriages roll down streets lined with old-fashioned street lamps and elaborate Victorian mansions. These brick behemoths now house art galleries, antique stores, and shops selling homemade ice cream and handcrafted jewelry.

Galveston Condo Condo was great. The king sized bed was very comfortable, but made the room crowed. The unit had everything we needed-towels for shower and the pool/beach, beach chairs, pans, dishes, coffee maker, blender, etc. The balcony was very nice with a great view of the water. I liked not having to cross the busy street to get to our own beach that was never crowded.

Relaxing This is a nice condo resort to stay while in Galveston. It is just past the sea wall so there is a nice size beach area. It is also close to everything in Galveston. They have a good bridge from the resort to the beach for easy access. I especially liked that because I could use my beach wagon to take our stuff back and forth each day. The outside of the buildings are looking a little old , needing roofing and a repaint, but the complex is very clean and well maintained. We stayed in unit 2109 which overlooks the pool area and the beach. It had everything we needed and both king sized beds were very comfortable. We definitely will visit this place again.

Location is only good thing… We like being away from the hustle and bustle; this fits that bill as it is just beyond the end of the sea wall. We were in building 2 facing east - which shortly will have a whole different bunch of condos go up next, blocking most of the view of the ocean. Our unit was over decorated, with furniture too large for the space. They opted for a breakfast bar instead of a table - they built a high top but only provided regular chairs so it was impossible to use. Light were burnt out or didn’t work, the door to the balcony only closed fully from the inside, the tub and sink drains didn’t function, the tub needed caulking badly, the kitchen sink was plumed backwards, no spare trash bags, ice maker didn’t work and cords were just dangling from both TVs. One washer and 2 dryers for entire building. Just not up to rental status. Oh and it is super annoying to have to wear wax paper admission bands at all times like you are at an amusement park or carnival.
