Oklahoma City: Former Frontier City with Modern Museums

Oklahoma City is both the capital and the largest city in the state, and it’s chock-full of contemporary museums, modern art displays, and vibrant neighborhoods. Head to the historical Bricktown district to stroll along a picturesque riverwalk past eateries and shops, all housed in the traditional red-brick buildings that gave the area its name.

You’ll also find several niche museums to check out, such as the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum and the Museum of Osteology, which bills itself as “America’s First Skeleton Museum.” Here, you can see hundreds of skulls and skeletons of various animals, including primates, reptiles, and a 40-foot whale.

We were in okc to attend a Thunder game - the Sheraton is only a block north of the Chesapeake arena - great location. The room was a little dated - limited electrical outlets for all of our phones and tablets but clean and comfortable

Checked In Early, Regretted It All Night Long As a loyal Marriott Bonvoy member, I chose to stay at Sheraton Oklahoma City Downtown Hotel (1 Broadway Avenue, Oklahoma City) during the Nation’s Best Sports Convention, expecting the comfort and professionalism associated with the Marriott brand. When I arrived at 11:42 AM, I was informed that standard check-in was at 3:00 PM. However, the gentleman at the front desk kindly offered to check me into a room that was already available — located next to the elevator. At that moment, I genuinely believed he was going out of his way to help me, and I appreciated what seemed like exceptional service. Unfortunately, that “courtesy” turned into two sleepless nights. Room #1118 is positioned so close to the elevator that I could hear every movement, every stop, every mechanical sound — all night long. The constant noise echoed through the room without pause. What initially felt like a thoughtful gesture became a regrettable mistake that significantly affected my stay. What is most disappointing is not simply the room location, but the lack of transparency. First-time guests — or even loyal members — should not be made to feel as though they are receiving a favor, only to later discover the hidden downside. A simple explanation such as, “We have a room ready, but please note it is next to the elevator and may be noisy,” would have allowed me to make an informed decision. Instead, I spent two nights listening to the elevator operate nonstop. Each morning when the gentleman who checked me in saw me, he avoided eye contact. I chose not to say anything at the time because I also accept that I agreed to the room — but the situation could have been handled with more honesty and consideration. As a Marriott Bonvoy member, I expect transparency, comfort, and genuine hospitality — not a lesson learned the hard way. I hope, as a courtesy to future guests, that your team clearly explains the consequences of accepting early check-in rooms located in high-noise areas. I am deeply disappointed by this experience.

Pleasant OKC Stay Stayed for the central location to bricktown while on business in OKC. The staff highlights the hotel and the beds were comfortable outside of that everything else was just average. Front desk staff was very accommodating, friendly and prompt to any and all requests during my stay. Had a king room on the 14th floor. The bathroom is just so teeny that the door is in the way of the sink shower and toilet. Kind of an odd room setup with the fridge in the closet as well. Rooms overall average but clean and comfortable. As a platinum guest had access to the lounge. Again staff was friendly and accommodating. The breakfast offerings were nice, fresh although could have been hotter. The appetizer offerings were not the greatest at all. Also unlabeled dishes and sometimes no one was there so unsure what the stew was or the eggroll contents. There are a few granola bars for grab and go but no sodas just water and coffee, tea etc machine. The hotel is convenient and walkable to Bricktown. The fitness center is great it is large and plenty of cardio machines as well as open space for workouts and several upper body machines in the back too. Overall a pleasant stay and if the lounge improved a bit as well as room sizes, would be a solid choice for OKC

Average hotel in a great location Stayed here for just 1 night on business. Check in was effective. Lobby is pretty nice. The rooms and corridors could all use an upgrade. Outdated and desperate in need of renovation. Bathroom real small. Rooms were very poorly lit. Some of the bulbs were out. Found a bug in the bathroom near the bathtub in the morning as i was getting ready. Room service is quick. Lounge is good. I would probably look for a different place when I am in town next time.,
