Tampa, Florida: Sunny Days, Beaches, and Busch Gardens

Given that Tampa has more than 15 white-sand beaches and nearly 250 sunny days a year, it should come as no surprise that Forbes magazine ranked it the fifth best city in America for enjoying the outdoors. Set on the Gulf Coast, about 90 miles southwest of Orlando, the city offers abundant green spaces as well as year-round opportunities for fishing, surfing, and golfing on waterfront courses.

Roller coasters and exotic animals share real estate at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay, a theme park designed to evoke the thrills of an African safari. Like a big cat sprinting after its prey, Cheetah Hunt—one of the park’s newer thrill rides—reaches speeds of up to 60 miles per hour. Back on solid ground, you can get up close and personal with more than 2,000 animals living in detailed replicas of their natural habitats.

Worst Experience This hotel got the best of me. I am understanding when a few things happen but it just would not stop here. First day we checked in and everything went smooth. Got to our rooms and unpacked. A friendly roach decided to jump out of the closet and I spent about 15 minutes trying to destroy it. Not a big deal and I usually would never say anything but I am including everything on this review. Finally got a shower and during it I found out that the shower gel was completely empty. No big deal, I will just use the bar soap and call them tomorrow! Next morning we noticed the table we had some of our things on was soaked due to and ice bucket that leaked from a crack at the bottom. No biggie, nothing was damaged. We dried everything off and went to the front to ask for a new ice bucket and of course the shower gel too. Next morning I woke to the sound of an intermittent drill at 7:30 am and a very nasty smell. Neither would go away so I got up and got ready. After getting to the elevator we noticed where the pleasant sound and smell where coming from… They were renovating a large room that said “Club” above it and that nasty smell, that made me feel sick for the next few days, was carpet glue! On my last night we had a late night out and then an early massive disturbance at the hotel room at 3:30 am. I don’t know what happened but the AC broke and was making an extremely loud gurgling/waterfall sound and I seriously thought a flood was coming. When I called the front desk the man could barely here me because of how loud it was. I had to go out in the hall so he could hear me. After telling him the issue he first stated that they do not have maintenance available this early and could extend my check out… I told him then I might as well check out now because this is not cool at all. Then he said that he will see if he can find another room and then ran up us a new key. Luckily, there was a room available right across and we packed everything up and moved on over. Tried to get a few more hours of sleep and ended up checking out earlier than we planned. The same man that helped us change rooms that morning was the one who checked us out. I reminded him that we were the ones that switched rooms last night because of the AC issue and thanked him for his help. I also asked if we could make sure there was no extra charges for changing rooms and he just said “your email is ____? You will get a receipt there” What the heck? No “thank you for choosing” “thank you for staying at” “Sorry for the inconvenience” just stare at the computer and tell me to check my email. That last part really pissed me off! I travel about maybe 3-4 times a year and this is the worst experience I have ever had at a Hotel. The only reason I stayed here is because we had friends that were staying here and we wanted to be close to them during our stay.

Our family will never forget the care and kindness we received during our stay. We were in town for a very special reason—welcoming our first child through adoption—and the hotel truly became our home while we waited for clearance. From the moment we arrived, the staff went above and beyond. Zoey quickly rebooked us when our original lodging fell through and provided us with club access, ensuring a smooth transition when we needed it most. Ashley and Amanda, who were in the club, checked in on us daily, always greeting us with warmth and making us feel genuinely cared for. Having a central, comfortable place for our visiting family to gather made such a difference—and being able to extend our stay day by day without stress was a huge relief. Every member of the staff was understanding, patient, and gracious. Our youngest guest (3 days old - 12 days old) may not remember these first days, but we always will. Thank you for helping us start this new chapter with comfort, joy, and peace of mind.
