Seaside, Oregon: Coastal Beauty Surrounding a Family-Friendly Town

Located along Oregon’s Pacific coast, about 80 miles northwest of Portland, the resort town of Seaside has attracted beachcombers since the late 19th century. More recently, the coastal village has become a family destination marked by historical buildings, tree-lined boulevards, and plenty of kid-friendly activities, including mini golf, bumper cars, and arcades.

A 1.5-mile oceanfront promenade—known locally as the Prom—stretches along the beach, its boardwalk speckled with shops and restaurants near grass-covered dunes. Along the Prom, you’ll find a bronze statue of Lewis and Clark that faces the ocean at the historic Seaside Turnaround—the spot where the explorers are thought to have ended their epic westward trek. The Seaside Aquarium is also located along the promenade. Pop in to visit its aquatic residents, including a giant Pacific octopus, tropical fish, and several crowd-pleasing harbor seals.

Horrible This hotel was so gross. We ended up there because there was no other places available and we would have slept in our car. The room was in horrible shape and we killed a coach roach as we walked into the room. The outside door barely shut and was not sealed correctly. The floor was so gross, we wore our shoes the whole time, including while we showered. The door stop had TP shoved in the stopper. The bathroom door had holes. It was all together a horrible place. To make matters worse we paid over 700 dollars for 2 nights because it was Hood to Coast weekend. We could not get out of there fast enough in the mornings and didn’t go back till we had to sleep at night. Would never stay there again.

Avoid. Worst guest service experience. Wow.. I have never seen such a filthy and nasty facility, I had let my kids book a spaces for while visiting the seaside for vacation. The front desk ladies looked not so clean..(Front Desk) The chubby lady at the front desk kept whispering at the other skinnier lady whenever asked a question, zero customer service. not sure what they were discussing, we were booked for a large 3 beds but instead we were given a small room with two small beds. As we walked in the rooms we were greeted by number of roaches. I had booked for couple days.. after the night of checking in.. i decided to book a vacation home.. left the dirty nasty Red lion the next the day and never returned to finished my stay. Ladies at the front desk were not helpful didn't even bother to look into my concern. Please avoid this place completely unless you enjoy a bug friend.

Hard Pass. Never Again. Unsafe. We had so many issues with this hotel it's hard to know where to begin. Number one is the price for the dilapidated condition of this hotel. It's rating of " fair" is generous. I have stayed at a lot of Red Lion's and this one is a fail. They claim the spa is under maintenance and show photos of it, but my photos show it quite different, and the sauna had a padlock on it. The worst of all was the nail sticking point up through the plywood bed platform. We did not discover this until our third night and were horrified to discover it. We were traveling with a toddler and an infant. On the day we discovered it we had other family with 2 toddlers stop in. We feel fortunate no one was hurt I forgot to take a picture of the smoke alarm dangling from the ceiling, especiallyin the light that we were rudely sent away because we were an hour and 15 minutes early. The housekeeping crew that prevented our arrival surely had time to notice both the nail and the smoke alarm, but failed to look after the safety of their guests. I realize it is Seaside but at the price tag of this room the very lesst I would expect is making sure it is safe, especially having been aware we were traveling with small children. Red Lion should compensate me and please don't stay here.
